Glad you got it sorted, like you say it's really not what you need in January but the path you've taken equates to a £1200 saving over what Citroen seem to want to do the same work so it could have been worse if you didn't have the foresight to look at other options.

It's time Citroen took a hit and proactively recalled cars with these tanks, there's going to be an epidemic of seriously annoyed customers before long.

Glad you have it back.

I top up my Adblue tank at the end of every month. I have a 15 litre container I keep in the shed and just funnel some off into a smaller canister for filling. I prefer not to let it get too low to help prevent crystallisation when too much air gets in the tank. This may or may not add to potential pump issues, but I prefer not to take the chance.

What happens to the faulty tank? Anyone tried to repair one?

Yes, I just meant once you've ripped it apart that's it - there's no putting it back again - that may be a different tank, and they're not the same of course. Maybe the other chap had a tank that was repairable - but I've not seen any others yet....

It's not the tank, it's the pump and electronics that go west, when the Urea leaks where it is not supposed to be. Saw an ad on Youtube in Portugal for a guy that repairs them for €300 (1yr guarantee) or €400 with a two year. Doesn't actually say what they do....!

Yeh - I clocked that too Richard - some of the comments reflect the same thing - hard to contact and not somebody I would be parting cash to.

If in the future I have this issue, I would be going new OEM tank from wherever I could source it from at a decent price and get my local dealer to fit only and clear any faults - but I definitely feel those extended warranty years looming....

Marc, you suggested in your post of 10 January 2022 that new Adblue tanks don’t need pairing. Is this fact or just typical Welsh wishful thinking!

WELSHVIKING wrote: 18 Jan 2022, 15:04 Just an update, My wife's C4 Picasso is back at home with no more Urea faults and no dreaded countdown to hell. New tank cost £652, Adblue for 15L was £19 and Labour 2 hours was £120 so total cost was £791 not really what we wanted straight after Christmas. Thanks for everyone's help it was much appreciated.

I'm going to have to have another look at this topic in some more depth, as the available information is a bit contradictory.

This could be due to the different tank assemblies on various different vehicles from 2013 onwards.

On my Aircross, if the UREA reservoir is removed or replaced, no programming is necessary. However before removing the tank, a diagnostic tool is required to first check for pressure in the UREA circuit and where found, release the pressure using Diagbox.

Internal to the tank, I know that on my Aircross if the UREA pump gauge module is removed or replaced then programming is necessary. With that in mind, there are no separate parts shown for the internals of the UREA tank.... so therein lies the problem and the lack of clarity over whether if replacing the tank requires programming (which contains all the pump and electronics), or if programming is only required if the pump gauge module is removed or replaced from the tank. This would therefore imply that these components are removable. But if you can't get spares and PSA don't provide them, what is the point? :-k

Regarding pairing the mechanic I used had to use his Bosch diagnostic to say a new tank had been fitted.

The question is not whether you need to use a diagnostic tool, but whether any pairing with PSA is required after installation of a new tank (including nox sensor, tank, electronics and Uncle Tom…..and all)

Is it just the urea warning light?

My C4 had this (adblue was over 3/4 full) then the 'your car will not start in x miles light then engine warning light', i ended having to get tank pump replaced by citroen at a cost of £1300

Since then until during 1st lockdown everything fine then it happend again got a cheap ODB 2 reader about £25 and used that to check for fault codes, I spoke to citroen UK about honoring the warranty on said tank replacement but all they kept saying was if its a different code then its not covered.

At present (same situation as yourself ref funds) ive managed to get the urea and enginge wont start lights off but i cant get enginge warning light off which is an MOT fail, i can clear it for a time but it does come back, im hoping that maybe if i clear it at the MOT test centre then it wil lpass and i can look at repairs after ....

I know its not helpful or what you want to hear, but get a cheap ODB2 reader plug it in and see what fault codes you are getting, their are some clever people on here.

It's not 'pairing with PSA' but configuration of the ECU that may be required, or as said notification of a new tank being fitted - which in either case does require a dealer-level diagnostic tool like Diagbox. The engine ECU is responsible for all the components of the Adblue system.
