Re: New C5 owner with a few questions already
Hi Marc, thanks for that.
The height on my car is right / hasn't changed. The problem is that the intermediate height doesn't work at the front now. It goes past intermediate and continues to maximum and the message on the dashboard no longer comes up to confirm it has reached the height. It also does not give the message confirming it reaches maximum height.
When I set it to return to normal height it lowers to normal height and the confirmation message comes up. It is only the raised heights that don't work properly.
I wonder if the garage unplugged the front height sensor while it was ignition on and it has lost some kind of calibration..

It's obviously not set right, so may need the height settings adjusting. It's a bit of a faff to follow, but is the only way to check it.

Re: New C5 owner with a few questions already
MOT is on the horizon.. well April. But that's close enough when your car is 14 years old
I need one thing right away and that's the wiring harness+plug for the LH brake pad wear warning. The plug frayed and broke off in the past - I bought the car this way knowing it would need fixed. I'm just wondering if someone (Marc?) Could find the diagram / part number/ is it still available from the database.
AND incredibly, the same part is needed on my Xantia!
Despite the difference in build years between them (1993 - 2008) both appear to have exactly the same plug at the end. Only difference I can see is the xantia has a visible plug on the inboard end and the C5 has the harness just vanish onto the wheel arch under the engine fuse box area.
Could anyone confirm they are different parts?
Also, the C5 is beginning to suffer from the problem where the gearstick lock doesn't release with the brake pedal press. Occasionally it works but mostly not. I do hear the little relay on the passenger side click but not the solenoid. I've looked up the relay on here from a few years ago but wondering if anyone just happened to have a link for a source for a brand new one?
All the best!

Hi Graeme
This thread is more like an ongoing blog, so I'm going to move it to the Blogs section. Mods and Admins may not read or see every post on these long threads and will likely not pick up on your parts request. I only picked this up as I'm having some browser issues and saw it by chance.
If you have any specific parts requests, please ask in the main parts thread - link below (and please keep it strictly parts related)
viewtopic.php?t=69962
I'll transfer your request and the response there for you shortly., thanks

Re: New C5 owner with a few questions already
NEW SPHERES!
I had ordered 2 rear and one front center spheres in December - the rear pair supplied turned out to be not new and were in fact, front corner spheres with the damper valve removed. I complained and returned these and the seller admitted fault and refunded. The seller offered to supply the correct rear spheres for half price and free postage so I'd be daft not to.. The finally arrived! (I get a bit over excited about spheres). I realised with the rear wheels reversed up on ramps that it might be possible to depressurise the rear suspension alone by using the raise/lower switch in the boot. This worked a treat! just hold the lower button allows it to be lowered quite safely onto axle stands - you can lower in stages to get the stands adjusted better. Keep going until the wheels lift off the ramps showing the pressure is out the system. Sphere change was then simply a 15 minute job.
Afterwards I decided to use the lexia to fully depressurise the suspension to purge trapped air. I also wanted to drain the LDS because the garage who changed the steering rack left it overfilled. I wasn't ready for how much it was overfilled by! I initially used a syringe and diesel spill off hose to draw out the full 1l of LDS/DA before depressurising otherwise it would go one the garage floor!
It's pretty annoying, the garage wrote off the reconditioned steering rack fitting it as I reported, that's bad enough but this full litre and a quarter overfilled fluid tells me they don't know what they're doing. It's disappointing because they are one of the rare Citroen specialists.. other problems are there's been a rattling/ knocking heard when the engine is turned off, a new knocking at times low speed steering light braking (ok, could be my inner bushings wearing - not looked yet) and the suspension intermediate and high settings on the front suspension are not working properly. Paying for over a litre of extra LDS/DA isn't cheap.. I'm back to doing all my own work!!
Ran a global diagnostic and read through the log of historic faults and there was only one new fault and it was the suspension: temporary fault , something to do with no communication. I cleared this but it hasn't changed the front suspension faults.
Anyway, a nice afternoon playing in the garage.

Re: New C5 owner with a few questions already
The C5 has developed a knock in the front end and it turns out to be the new steering rack!
Upon investigation the garage hasn't tightened the 2 nuts correctly and the whole track was moving. I've retightened them but don't know the torque. Anyone have the figure available?
I might leave the front undertray off for a while in case I need to retighten these again. It's there meant to be any threadlock?
I have a feeling that the garage having knackered the first rack might have been timidv in tightening the replacement rack. But don't know for sure. I'm less keen to get back in touch with them but certainly will if there's a problem. I've taken a video of the rack clonking loosely as the steering wheel was rocked.

Re: New C5 owner with a few questions already
Hi James, yes it's up for sale alongside my Xantia. Basically I am selling one of them and can't really decide so leaving it up to the universe to decide for me.. I'll keep whatever one remains. Ideally I'd keep the C5 but annoyingly that's the only one to have had interest so far. The C5 just passed its MOT today with an advisory on a slight play in the LH steering rod. Incredible considering it has a replacement rack only 6 weeks ago... but I can't be doing with that Citroen 'specialist' I used so I'll probably replace the inner rod in the coming year. I recently fitted BBS replica wheels to the Xantia and it looks awesome now.
The C5 is all standard apart from the modified rubber boot covering the steering shaft that rusts.Graeme M

Re: New C5 owner with a few questions already
Hi to everyone,
I am new to the forum, this is my very first post. As I am not a mechanic only an engineer of plastics, I have the following unsolved issue with my 2002 C5 wagon:
I have replaced all seats with electric ones. It worked plug and play (2 connectors on the driver side, 3 conectors on passanger side), I inserted 80A maxi fuse to the 6th position, and both seats became working. But!
The central lock have stopped working, and electric window moving mechanism did the same. I have checked the fusebox in the interior, but it came out each fuse is ok. But central lock and electric windows still not working. I hear relay clicking while pressing the button of any window or the button of the central lock placed next to the radio, but do not happen the expected action. I can lock only the driver side door with the key.
What is your opinion about this issue? Should I visit an expert with a Lexia? Or any other scenario?
Thank you for helping answers!
Zsolt

Hi greyhound and welcome.
Have you tried removing the 80A fuse and testing the windows?

Hi Mick,
Thanky you for tipp! No I have not. The reason is in my opinion, the seats will end up working if i do this. I am greedy, I would like to enjoy the benefits of all electrical equipments.
But it's worth a try.
