Re: 2.2 HDi torque reaction mount
I forgot to mention the the DW12C specific engine only on the C5 X7, has an ECU controlled active damper system for the engine. On the 3.0 version there is a Carlos Fandango system using EGR valves

Re: 2.2 HDi torque reaction mount
Hi Marc & Chris,
Thanks for your further thoughts and advice and sorry for not replying earlier. I spent all of yesterday under my car in the sweltering heat trying to find any other causes of my vibration/shudder and I was absolutely shattered last night !
Interesting to hear that cooled mountings were used on the XM as well. I ran the car with the air con on and the undertray removed and there was a fair bit of air issuing from that outlet - that would then normally go through the tube to the mount. As I mentioned, I often run the car without air con so maybe I should use it a bit more after I replace the mount.
Love the Carlos Fandango reference Marc and wow, with ECU controlled active dampers and air conditioned mountings, we’ll be having cars that drive themselves next.....oh err.........we have already !
As you say Chris, the engine pivots and I tried to measure how much. Difficult to get a protractor anywhere but the metal part that protrudes from the bottom mount bracket moves about 2cms. The thing I find slightly odd is that the upper torque rod is fixed so close to the right hand engine mount that there is little or no movement for it to resist there, so it would seem the bottom one does most of the work.
Ah well, thanks again. I see when the garage changed the mount a couple of years ago it was only about £30 and has doubled in cost since ! At least, this time, I’ll do it myself so won’t have to pay any labour !
Cheers
Julian

Re: 2.2 HDi torque reaction mount
Just in case you are interested Julian, this is the system fitted for the DW12C engine on the X7:
(1) Is the Damper Electronic Unit
(3) Is the Active Damper Actuator
... and on the 3.0 HDi
(1) & (2) EGR Control Vacuum pipes
(4) Vacuum Reserve
So whether this has some sort of pneumatic cushioning hovercraft inflatable whatsitsname thingy... hence the Carlos Fandango inference...

Re: 2.2 HDi torque reaction mount
The only thing is I presume Marc’s description comes from the official Citroen recommended repair.
Some time ago my twin turbo oil supply and drain pipes started leaking and the official repair entailed removing the engine and gearbox. Looking at it, I reckoned it might be possible to do the job without removal of unit and I managed to do it, with just a few scraped knuckles.
So, I was just wondering whether there might be any simpler way of doing this job ?
Good luck anyway
Cheers

Re: 2.2 HDi torque reaction mount
Not really Julian, as it is a different system fitted on the X7 and a different engine to the 175 you have.

Re: 2.2 HDi torque reaction mount
Hi Marc,
Yes, I realise that it is very different to mine and that complex torque reaction mount is ccompletely different.
My point was intended to be that the manufacturers sometimes make things even more complicated than they need to be. It's nothing new - Originally BMC insisted that the engine and gearbox of the Mini needed to be removed to change the clutch and it was the same situation with the Rover 2000/2200. Rover gave a 'book' time of about 8 hours but we could do them in 2 or 3 hours !
Cheers

Re: 2.2 HDi torque reaction mount
I just skimped through and could see that it does need the various sensors removing and to do that it does mean all that unfortunately as the loom for this is all over the place.
