Having made it to India it would be downright rude not to jump on the train to Agra to visit India's most famous monument The Taj Mahal, but when I looked for a suitable picture I found many options of the traditional view, however I think that view denies the viewer of the true magnificence of the sight so I picked out this image which gives even the casual observer a better idea of the beauty of the place:

Well I am a big fan of University Challenge.

Quite regularly the various regions of india come up, and my knowledge of them is completely lacking.

So here's a little map from https://www.touropia.com/regions-of-india-map/

Image

If I had been asked where is the Taj Mahal I would have had no idea it was in Agra, Uttar Pradesh,

On my guess-o-matic for questions on Indian Regions I always go for Uttar Pradesh :-D

So in the next Phase of the chain why dont we pick up something of interest from each of the Indian regions on the map.....we may even learn something new, and it may mean a correct answer or two on future UC programmes. :-D

My late father-in-law was a stamp collector for most of his life and built up a collection of astonishing breadth and depth. He was passionate about all things India - not just the stamps, but court documents and customs declarations and other officialdom - including a 100-200 year old opium stained declaration for an opium shipment  He wasn't just content with sticking stamps on pages, but he took great pride in the presentation as well. Here are just two pages of the many - and there really are a lot ! - stamp albums.

Cochin stamps - own work

Not only did my F-in-L collect stamps, he also had a few coins.....
Indian coins - own work
Indian coins - own work
The one on the right is apparently a Delhi silver tanka of about 500 years old, whereas the two on the left are from Sind and are supposed to be about 1000 years old and worth about 1/6 Dirham  But I'm no numismatist, so don't blame me if that's incorrect

One of the snooker facts that stick because of the Prime Minister of the same name! Like Wilson always makes me think of pipes and raincoats and Heath of Morning Cloud!! :)

Well had I tended this thread a bit more fastidiously in recent weeks I would have got a couple of questions right on UC tonight.

Hyderabad is the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Telangana and the de jure capital of Andhra Pradesh.
One of the questions was about Hyderabad being listed by UNESCO as a creative city of gastronomy, and another was about the language of the region ie Telagu

So time to leave India, with the possibility of going from Hyderabad to one of the other cities around the world which also receive the UNSECO accolade...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_Gastronomy

There are 36 UNESCO Cities of Gastronomy (as in the spoiler) and the one chosen at random is N0 29 on the list:
29 Popayán Colombia 2005.

Great I for one know very little about Popayan Columbia, so have a dig around and see if we can learn something, or at least come up with some random trivia :-D

Absolute trivia!! If meters were yards Popayan would be 1 mile above sea level!! :-D ......from Wiki: "...an area of 483 km 2, is located 1760 meters above sea level, and has an average temperature of 18 °C."
