Re: FCF Desert Island Discs
Well, I'm pleased it wasn't quite as easy to guess as I thought it might be, but "The world won't listen" is indeed the right answer. I'm aware I have a dreadful taste in music and I'll vary by other choices a bit more for the sake of everyone else, but "heaven knows I'm miserable now" isn't quite as depressing as the title makes it sound, if anything, it's so melodramatic it makes it funny!
my second choice is very easy to guess, I haven't cropped out the title, but some songs on there are quite fitting for being stuck on an island, I'm sure you can work out which ones -

Re: FCF Desert Island Discs
Nice selection
There's always a thumbs up from me for folks from Tyneside Durham and Northumberland doing well and Sting has an impressive catalogue from the Police to solo stuff and collaborations with the likes of Mark Knopfler and others. If he had done nothing else, the writing of "Fields of Gold" would still rank him as one of the best songwriters in my book.

Re: FCF Desert Island Discs
My musical taste gets even worse with the addition of this -
I enjoy it, but I reckon being forced to listen to track two of side two would drive you mad eventually.
I'm now praying someone else takes this over before it gets any more embarrassing

Would that be this track:

That is amazing for me with anything produced after 1973!!
Keep going and you'll soon have your 9!

..and my favourite Genesis Track is Squonk from A Trick of the Tail, no idea what it is on about but like anthemic driving feel of it, as selected here on the FCF's very own jukebox down at the Pickled Egg

I'll have a delve amongst them in due course, and I'll check out Sting's best!
You posted it here Steve and described it as "possibly the gentlest protest song ever written"

I had to do some grafting here Steve because my mate is out enjoying his new found freedom. So I have put together a corresponding names chart alongside your post, you will need to click on the image to read the words:

Re: FCF Desert Island Discs
The names are all on the covers Mick. They are really just a random selection from the heap, some I have been playing recently.
EDIT: I see that the top of the pictures are clipped off. Not intentional.
Impossible to select nine for DIDs, especially as the Jackie Evancho ones have been disqualified
There is a sore point. I was playing the Eleftheria Arvanitali "Meno Ektos" and it started skipping on the next to last track. There are a few scratches on it but have never been a problem previously. I put another one of her discs in and it did the same and there was a bit of a scraping sound, like clipping but it couldn't be, only 1/3 volume. Another of her discs did the same, and a fourth one (I think I have all her catalogue) plus another Greek one with various artists. Also random 'drop outs' a couple of seconds of silence. Another of her discs refused to play at all
Put that in a Toshiba DVD player and it played for a while then went haywire. I was now suspecting the amp too. (I play the sound track from DVDs through the stereo, not the TV speakers)
Put the Penguin Café one in and it was fine, then the Mazzy Star one, again no problem. Looks like the CD player is borked. Much unhappiness.
My friendly local HiFi place is closed, of course and I can imagine that it won't be a cheap fix.

Re: FCF Desert Island Discs
Nonsense Steve....take what you want even if one of them doesnt exist! and you can have more than one go. Arthur Askey was on three times! on BBC R4's pale imitation of FCF Desert Island Discs.myglaren wrote: 09 May 2020, 17:54 Impossible to select nine for DIDs, especially as the Jackie Evancho ones have been disqualified

Re: FCF Desert Island Discs
Now I know we live on different musical planets Steve. Is that a Shanling player? I don't spend that much on my cars let alone my CD players So I won't make any silly suggestions like get another player on ebay The closest I get to that level of audio quality is in Spain with my mates Wurlitzer but having said that I brought it back to the UK as he has sold it so thats the end of that!!myglaren wrote: 09 May 2020, 17:54 Much unhappiness.

I happily replaced the laser and transport on my lovely old Marantz late last year. I don't even think I'd go near your one wearing white cotton gloves.myglaren wrote: 09 May 2020, 17:54
