Re: Passing the Time
No likelihood of seeing anything tonight. Only Venus visible still.
Was clear last night but nothing. House/street lights make it difficult but there is a field just up the road that is better.
Next lot due in ten minutes but going to be a flop.

Re: Passing the Time
Been very quiet on here today, I assume everyone has found something to do!! I built a slug trap for our garden wishing well which is going to be planted with marigolds tomorrow and the slugs love them so I have made a wooden step with a copper top which they will have to cross to get to the plants and they don't like that!! Used the copper tape round all our garden pots for the last three years and the slugs and snails just don't go up them anymore!!

Re: Passing the Time
I don't know about anybody else but I have run out of constructive things to do to occupy myself. Now it seems the lockdown is taking effect.
So yesterday I dug out my HDD/DVD player recorder to discover its DVD drive is faulty
and so then my VHS/DVD recorder to connect them both back into our entertainment system. The VHS/DVD unit has no HDMi output
so I had to connect it to the HDD/DVD player via Scart lead and then the HDD/DVD to the TV with HDMi. So now I can watch or burn VHS tapes and watch DVDs via both units. I can also watch my HDD stored film collection of war and spy films. I have ordered box sets of The Plane Makers, The Power Game and The Brothers, I already have Howard's Way, Big Deal and Out of Town full sets so I think I should have sufficient good stuff to watch for 3-4 months . I have 600+ books in the study too but I do find reading a bit tiresome with my varifocal glasses, as I have to hold the book down which I don't find too comfortable, hence the time I spend on the laptop!!
I should point out that I am taking an hour's daily exercise
and have no intention of turning into a couched potato
. I also have my guitar
, flute and clarinet to amuse me from time to time but I'm not much good on any of them these days! Then of course there's always SWMBO

Re: Passing the Time
I've been digging out my tools, the vintage stuff and selling it on Ebay, the garden's tidier than it's been for years, built a new fence to replace the wind wrecked one on the front.
I don't have a SWMBO so there's the house cleaning, washing, cooking etc.
I haven't quite mastered the lady's muti-tasking yet I'm not able to read a Mills & Boon, watch Neighbours, lie on the sofa and drink wine at the same time.

Re: Passing the Time
I have the same problem with varifocals, got some last summer and they drove me nuts, bought two pair to replace them. Pain to keep swapping them - I now have seven pairs scattered around.
Books are tricky now as they are hard to hold, get very painful after not very long.
Been for my government-mandated exercise, something I don't do regularly enough
Walked over to the town where I used to work, excellent bakery there. Their stuff a way out of the league of supermarket stuff and ten time better than their rival a couple of hundred yards away.
The plan was fresh bread, apple pies and cornish pasties from them and fruit & veg from the grocers over the road.
Except the grocers, along with almost every other shop there, was closed.
Only took four hours
Anyway, here's something that may amuse you to try:
Inside-out boiled eggs.

Re: Passing the Time
SWMBO complained about the ropey state of the box surrounding our waterfall UV filter and asked if I could make it look like it was supposed to be there!! That was a week ago and I found a suitable covering on ebay and ordered it. It arrived this morning so I have just completed the job and I am rather pleased with it to be honest. (Mainly because she loves it and so I might get steak for dinner
!)

Re: Passing the Time
Just a thought. One of the Blu Ray drives in my PC stopped working. This was due to dust on the lens. As Windows could not 'see' a disk I could not use my lens cleaning disk (as you have to play track 7 to move the head to the brushes) so I opened it up, cleaned the lens and the friction washer (using a cotton bud and lens cleaning fluid), and now the drive 'sees' disks again.mickthemaverick wrote: 29 Apr 2020, 11:02 I don't know about anybody else but I have run out of constructive things to do to occupy myself. Re: Passing the Time
Passing the time quietly for a couple of days, had a fall in the bathroom on Sunday, got a black eye bruised ribs and a wrenched shoulder, so a bit sore, nothing too serious but it's messed up the enthusiasm to fix the rest of my fence and valet the car which I had intended to do this week.

Re: Passing the Time
Sorry to read that Gibbo but glad to hear that there is nothing too serious. Ironic considering it was only a few days ago you said you were fit! If you need anything online you can't deal with pm me and I'll be happy to give you any assistance I can. Cheers

Sorry to hear that. Here's hoping for a quick recovery.Gibbo2286 wrote: 05 May 2020, 09:50 Passing the time quietly for a couple of days, had a fall in the bathroom on Sunday, got a black eye bruised ribs and a wrenched shoulder, so a bit sore, nothing too serious but it's messed up the enthusiasm to fix the rest of my fence and valet the car which I had intended to do this week.
