Despite my lifetime career of petrol headedness I have never believed that investing more than you have to, to meet your needs, is a good idea. I have only ever bought 2 cars new, both of which as the result of unexpected windfalls, and I have no regrets about that at all. The money lost on depreciation of those wasn't mine in the first place so no issue. Consequently I now have a 20 year old car as my daily driver and a 30 year old as my Sunday fun. I have always bought cars on the cheap side of their market value by picking ones that need work or maybe dealers just want off the forecourt. Thus I am usually able to run them for a time until the market value has dropped to what I paid and then I'll sell and start again. Of course it involves keeping them running but that is part of the fun. Now of course the values of my current cars have bottomed out so I can run them for as long as I enjoy them. The MX3 is in fact beginning to creep up in value so no issue there at all. To sum up - I won't be going electric in the foreseeable!!

Harry makes the point about wanting to know the battery condition of a car - either before purchase or during ownership and I was trying to think of the ICE equivalent. The best I could come up with would be having to buy a car without being able to listen to the engine running first.
I don't necessarily think that having a battery condition indicator would put people off - you'd just pay market value for what it's indicating - but not having an indicator, and therefore not knowing one way or the other might put them off.

I agree there bobins, not knowing the battery condition would definitely affect the buying decision. The only comparison I can suggest is the mileage on the engine combined with the service history. However being ultra negative can you trust the service history as proof that the services were done correctly anyway?

I keep seeing way to many AA or the other companys sitting on the road side with mainly ev's , so no for me for now there not proving anythingnof use to me, i too like buying cheap, running my own repairs and sometimes with the help of my friendly moblie mechanic , i tend to buy this way as it can be fun & a learning curve when not so fun. Wheres all the old classics , mordern , vintage where will or when would you be able to drive these, perfect example, my zx estate1.9D, 10 years time will be exempt tax and mot , but this new loud exhaust camera thing coming out soon may well put a stop to me driving it .

I know what the said Mick but the accompanying picture shows £25k deposit.

I was just going by the accompanying quote sheet, total deposit £25,019, £20k of it cash and £5,000 on finance.

The finance part of the deposit is more than I've spent in total on the Zoe.

The whole Range Rover theft debacle has been bubbling along for ages. It was having the knock-on effect of massively devaluing punter's cars which was making them extremely dis-chuffed. No one wanted to buy them second hand as you stood a high chance of it being stolen and that put the insurance costs right up which also put people off. JLR had to end up coming up with their own insurance scheme as many insurers were refusing points blank to insure them.
