Yes Steve it is Whitby, I hope to get a shot or two of the abbey on this trip. Also hope to swing by Redcar as I have not been there since the eighties and imagine it has changed somewhat! I will see if I can improve the source map for better viewing. :)

All being well MIck it would be good to make it happen. Sort out the logistics when the time comes.

Interesting trip. Just a little way from the Tyne Tunnel is the original Tyne Tunnel....the pedestrian and cycle tunnel used by the shipyard workers. Was getting a major refurb which delayed and delayed its reopening.

Have a scan through this, you may find some of it to your interest

http://www.tynepedestrianandcyclisttunn ... e-2019.pdf

and the good news is that six years after it was closed for refurbishment it is now open again

One of my daughter's boyfriends lived in South Shields and worked in Shields Road Byker - which is on the opposite side of the Tyne.
He rode his bike through that tunnel almost every day.

If you had difficulty reading the map have another look as you should find the definition much better now! Sorry about that! :)

A diversion here would get you another cathedral, Hereford Worcester and Gloucester are the Three Choirs Festival sites, Hereford also houses the Mapa Mundi.

Thanks for the thought Gibbo but I won't have time on my last day as it is already tight, and there is no point in it turning into a mad rush. However I will add Hereford to my list for future tours.

Nice thought but no time on the run back from Bloodhound. I have been to the Haynes museum already but I'll add the tank museum to my future list. Cheers

Happy to meet up for a coffee and a bite to eat when you're passing through the Thames Valley, somewhere nice! i.e. Not Slough or Maidenhead!

Great stuff. Somewhere between Newbury and Reading might fit for a 6pm ish meet. If you can pick out a place we'll arrange it nearer the time ok? :)

Henley on Thames might be nice, if somewhat expensive!

Might you make it too James? Henley is a possible because I can cut across from Didcot via Nettlebed. :)

It depends on what day you arrive. Because of work my 'weekend' is Tuesday/Wednesday.
