C5 X7 thermostat, help!
I started what I thought was a nice simple job and its now into its 3rd day (not full days) I have removed all the clutter surrounding it and tied much of it back out of the way, removed the front pipes and the studs, all I need to do now is remove the rear pipes it doesn't look possible without removing the ECU is that necessary?
My present thermostat has a pipe projecting at the rear at 90 degrees whereas the replacement has both at the rear, I can't find a thermostat housing like mine anywhere, not a tremendous problem as I'm sure I could modify the pipe - if only I could get to it.
Can one of you gentlemen with all the info fill me in, or even tell me how to do it.
Thanks
Peter

I have merged these topics as they are about the same thing.
Where did you get the part from in the end?

Re: C5 X7 water temperature.
For information, I have put the procedure up for replacing the coolant outlet tank and for the associated draining, filling and degassing of the cooling system in the 'How To' section here:

Re: C5 X7 DW10BTED4 Coolant Outlet Replacement
Thanks Marc. I got the thermostat from ebay and someone kindly confirmed that it was the right one. I have looked through all the others on ebay and none have the 90 degree pipe at the back. There are obviously a number of different ones as the engine is used in so many car types.
I dont think the right angled pipe will be a problem - its just getting them off that will.

Re: C5 X7 water temperature.
(With reference to the coolant system draining and filling) - Yes Peter, 2 methods of refilling - using gravity or vacuum. I always have mine done at the garage as I can't be faffing with all that. I get most of my maintenance done for me these days as I can't be doing with all the crawling about and legs hanging out the windows to get anything done malarkey.
