Re: Citroen despatch 1.9 diesel fuel issue?
I am sorry if I hadnt acknowledged the earlier suggestions. I can assure that they were read.
As I mentioned earlier, this is my daughter and son in laws van which they need for their business. He is much more car savvy than me(I can barely put diesel I my car let alone prime it!)and will take all your suggestions on board. The priming has never been suggested before, not even by the garage.
I will let you know how they get on.
Thankyou

Re: Citroen despatch 1.9 diesel fuel issue?
Have spoken to son in law via What's app, he is in work.
The first thing he did was check the fuel pipe and he tells me he tested the black button and there was pressure there. So that should be ok.
Where can I tell him to look next?

Re: Citroen despatch 1.9 diesel fuel issue?
Somewhere deep deep down in my old grey matter someone had a problem similar to this and if i remember correctly it was the priming bulb at fault.
It should have a non return valve built into it??
Think it should go rock solid and something tells me that the non return valve would stick when it got hot and not allow fuel through.
Memory is a bit vague these days but they are pretty cheap to replace.
Sorry if i am rambling on lol

Re: Citroen despatch 1.9 diesel fuel issue?
Thankyou.
My son in law assures me this has been checked out.
So far we have ruled out:
Priming bulb
Fuel pipe
I did say this intermittent fault has been ongoing for months!
Please keep advice going

Re: Citroen despatch 1.9 diesel fuel issue?
Has a clear length of pipe between filter and pump been fitted, to visually check for air in fuel?
Looking for a visible leak will come up nix, because the pipe is under suction.

Re: Citroen despatch 1.9 diesel fuel issue?
There appears to be a lot of iron filings in the filter.
Any thoughts?

Re: Citroen despatch 1.9 diesel fuel issue?
I wonder if there is a lift pump in the tank? If there is that could be worth checking out. Those filings could be the pump (if it does exist) wearing out.

Re: Citroen despatch 1.9 diesel fuel issue?
There is no pump in the tank on the models of Dispatch 1.9 I've looked at.
Do post your VIN, so accurate check can be made.
Most PSA diesels do not have a tank pump - delivery is by suction by the injector pump, via the filter.
For petrols, a tank pump is usual.
Rust or steel debris in the system quite likely from the dregs of a fill up.
Filling stations have steel tanks and pipework, and are not scrupulous in removing water from their diesel tanks, which always sinks to the bottom. On our cars, tanks are usually plastic, but that's what fuel filters are for, thank goodness!

Re: Citroen despatch 1.9 diesel fuel issue?
The VIN was posted earlier in the thread. I think we have established there is no pump in the tank.
Since I posted earlier the van has been back to the garage and a new fuel pressure regulator fitted. Van seems to he running better.
Basically apart from the fuel pump and a couple of sensors there is not a lot more to be done so hopefully we are coming towards a resolution.
Thankyou for the advice on the filings.

Re: Citroen despatch 1.9 diesel fuel issue?
Yes, VIN is up there; sorry. Been a busy day.
Yes, no tank pump, just level gauge and pick-up (supply feed).
Hopefully it's sorted.

Re: Citroen despatch 1.9 diesel fuel issue?
This is a DW10UTED4 engine, 2009, no FAP with Siemens Injection. Gauge only in fuel tank, no pump.
To go back to basics here, a proper diagnostic really needs to be done (preferably with a Lexia3 VCI interface with Diagbox software) otherwise there will just be wild guesses - modern vehicles can have multiple causes of faults some obvious, others not so. We don't know if you had the diagnostics done, and if so was this at a Citroen dealership? As you have already experienced, replacing parts (again we don't know if this was a result of any fault codes) has had no effect.
There should be faults logged relating to the air / fuel system and if you can get these, I might be able to offer some pointers, but without these it is going to be guesswork as you have seen.
