Hi, I have the same noise from the turbo. The errors that come out are p1497, p2562. Where to look for the problem, in the solenoid valve or the actuator? Thanks in advance.

Well low and behold I find myself having the same issues.
2012 DS4 2.0 HDI 166000 mile.
First noticed a whirring noise from engine. Very subtle but there. Also getting grunting noise when revved and revs drop just like video in this thread.
Acceleration is rough in lower gears but smooths out when I accelerate harder.
Also getting over boost noises that are reminiscent of dump valve noise just like second video.
Fuel consumption is down.
Turbo is a recon very recently fitted.
Actuator solenoid has been replaced but no joy.
Car has had dpf deleted so I know it’s not blocked.
Error codes are P0100, P11AA, P149C.
Next plan is to replace the second solenoid in the vac system and see if that has any effect unless anyone has any other suggestions?
Thanks for any suggestions in advance.

Hi, GiveMeABrake,

I had recently the following trurbo error codes
P1496
P1497
P2563
I have changed the vacuum solenoid with original part No: 9810400480 (this is the fourth one, from left to right, if you stand in front the car or in other words - the one on the drivers side)

By this P2563 disappeared, however, I have now

P0234
P1498
P1497
P11AA

Also, other symptoms are cruise control and speed limiter being off, turbo being off, car in service mode (no more than 2000 rpm), and engine and SERVICE lights on. If I put on S and increase above 3000 rpm, the SERVICE sign is off, however, the engine warning sign stays for 3 more days.
A very interesting behavior of the car is that if a press the gas pedal the voltage drops from 14:8 to 13.7 (13.8) and if a release the gas pedal, goes up again to 14.8/14.9
This leads me to a malfunction of some electrical element. Once again, after 3 days, when all errors are gone - the voltage stays stable at 14.8/14.9

Your suggestion is to change
9801887680

Is this another solenoid, as RHH has 4 at the back, and if I am guessing right it is the 1st one, the one that is close to the time belt - am I right?

My kind request is:
Is 9810400480 the same as 9801887680 - or I have been given a wrong part
or
9801887680 is a different solenoid I should change also

Would you be so kind and advice me, please!

My VIN is:
VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
Peugeot 508, 2.0, 163, RHH (I believe my engine is DW10CTED4 FAP)

P11AA: Air Circuit, Maximum Turbo Pressure Exceeded. Incoherence between the position of the turbocharger electrovalve measured and the turbo air pressure measured, detected by the turbo pressure being above 3 bars for 1.5 seconds

Down Grade Modes:
  • Deactivation of the request for regeneration of the particle filter from the diagnostic tool
  • Cutting of the exhaust heat saver function
  • Prohibition of regenerations of the particle emission filter and stopping of those in progress
  • Prohibition of the combustion mode that encourages regeneration
  • Deactivation of the kick-down control for automatic gearboxes
  • Limitation of performance
  • Request for emergency closing of the turbo air cooler by-pass unit
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle speed limiter (Need to switch the ignition off and then on, in order to make the function available again)
  • Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle cruise control (Need to switch the ignition off and then on, in order to make the function available again)
  • Deactivation of the tight spot for the cruise control
Customer Issues:
  • Noise
  • Diesel fuel consumption a bit higher
  • Lack of power
Suspect Areas:
  • Turbocharging pressure sensor
  • Turbocharger
  • Turbocharger solenoid valve
  • Turbocharger position copy
  • Vacuum circuit
  • Electrical harnesses
So you need to get this sorted because all the while it is happening the vehicle will stop the particle filter regenerating and soon it will get blocked to the point where it will no longer be able to regenerate. So don't leave it!

The most likely suspect is the turbo solenoid electrovalve - these have a sponge or gauze mesh filter contained in the module somewhere that can become blocked up over time. Take it off, clean the sponge out, dry it and put it back. That may restore the vacuum.

P0234: Boost pressure regulation - Air pressure above the reference value. This is a very similar fault, and points to the same suspects as the previous description.

This is where it is located - the specific electrovalve is number (4)
Image
(4) Proportional electrovalve controlling the variable resistance turbocharger.
(5) Cold air circuit electrovalve.
(6) Hot air circuit electrovalve.
(7) Variable geometry turbocharger.
Here's a close up of the valve:
Image
(1) Proportional electrovalve.
"a" Vacuum inlet.
"b" Vacuum outlet.
"c" breather.
"d" 2-way black connector .
make: BITRON/PIERBURG.
The solenoid valve is a solenoid valve that is normally closed.
These all vary slightly in appearance - there are videos out there on taking these off and cleaning the gauze or sponge filter - depending on type.

If you have a vacuum testing kit you can use that to check pressure - incase you need the part number, it is 9801887680 - which is for the DW10CTED4 engine. Post your VIN up and I can confirm the part number.

9810400480 is not listed as a PSA part against this vehicle.

9801887680 as I have listed in the quotation is the same turbo solenoid valve used in both places in the gas recycling circuit for the hot and cold air mixing on the double air doser shown here at (4) & (5):

5Electrovalve controlling the cooled air mixer1361
6Air intake double doser-
7Exhaust gas recycling (EGR) heat exchanger-

I'll have a look at those codes shortly...

Just one issue - if you are getting fault P0234 and one ore more of the following: P1496, P1497 (which you have listed at least 2 of these) then this can indicate seizing of the turbo. There are some checks before you go changing parts but you will need a vacuum pump tool (DA16) to test this as shown:
vac pump.PNG
Read the fault codes:
In the presence of one or more of the following fault code(s) P0234, P1496, P1497: Carry out check.
In the absence of these 3 fault codes: This information does not apply.

Check
508 Turb Test A.PNG
Remove the heat protection (1).
508 Turb Test B.PNG
(2) Electrovalve controlling the EGR exchanger by-pass.
(3) Turbocharger pressure regulation solenoid valve.
(4) Inlet air cooling solenoid valve.
(5) Inlet air mixer control electrovalve (depending on equipment).
Uncouple the turbocharger pressure regulation solenoid valve (3) pipe.
508 Turb Test C.PNG
Couple the tool [DA 16] to the pipe at the turbocharger pressure regulation solenoid valve (3) outlet.
Apply a vacuum of 0,7 bar.
Visually check the movement of the control rod (6) on the turbocharger and the parameter measurements; Using a mirror and the diagnostic tool:
  • The vacuum is reached but the control rod (6) does not move freely: Carry out repair
  • The vacuum is reached, the control rod moves freely: This information does not apply
  • The vacuum is not reached: Carry out in-depth fault finding
Repair
Replace the turbocharger.

Thank you very much!

Here is the part I have used (attached to the post, luckily I kept an image of it). The dealer informed me there are 2 types of it: one long and one short (I do not understand why 2) and my part is the one from the picture.

In your opinion should I try to change the second one, the one on the left side (passenger side) if they are one and the same?

I noticed the hose that is coming from the back of the engine, on the left part, attached under the throttle flap was loose due to some oil from the manifold (a 90degrees shape rubber sealing) with oil-resistant short hose
(which works fine for now) and I think this is the moment I have started to get above mentioned codes.

I remember you mentioned somewhere there is a special bulletin regarding P0234 in correlation with P11AA, P1498, and P1497 - do you have access to this info? Can you please share it with me?

One extra Q: can you check this part 9810400480 if it is for other engines like:
Turbo Pressure Solenoid Valve Citroen C3 II DS3 Peugeot 2008 206+ 207 208 1.4 HDI 9810400480

Plamen - please see my last post ^^^ - the information is there.

I can't advise you on the solenoid as that part number is not listed for your VIN. But as I said, before you start changing parts, you need to read my last post as these faults may point to the need for a new turbocharger depending on the outcome.

Thank you for your help, time, and advice, Marc!

I was hoping it is not the turbocharger however, it leads in that direction... Will keep you posted.

Once again thank you for your help and support, much appreciated,

Dear Marc,

A kind request - would you be so kind and inform me about the product code for the turbo for my engine? I know it is a Garet (as a brand). I would like to check the prices for a new one or to recycle it.

Thank you very much,
Plamen
