Without wanting to cause offence - the words 'rust' and 'bucket' spring to mind
I think you have done well up to this point keeping it going, but it does seem like you are having lots of component failures in a short space of time. Maybe she's wanting to join the other ZXs in the sky!

To be honest this car has out done all the more up todate piles I've had, and the caliper issue is simple it was just location or source and last night I found it so today any min now job and weather permitted it a be sorted , as for rust she's sound .GiveMeABreak wrote: ↑08 Aug 2019, 21:24Without wanting to cause offence - the words 'rust' and 'bucket' spring to mindI think you have done well up to this point keeping it going, but it does seem like you are having lots of component failures in a short space of time. I've seen a couple of hatch backs on one for sale there not as clean as what mine is.
I've spent money on the old car which is cheaper than buying another car that could potentially have shed loads of problems as you get to learn from it , no one seems to be honest when they sell cars (used)
But the old man I got this from was as honest as the day

As with my rattle sound the slider lock nuts didn't have washers so I've place some I had in my bits n bobs box and its taken the free movement , while I had the wheel off it also gave me the chance of changing the old bottom hose which had a nice shaved piece of rubber sliced out of it, all done now .

This is one car that makes me smile.
I'd love to get a mk1 xantia 1.9d but
For now I'm more than happy with this old bus.

She is looking rather sparkly! I had a work colleague with an Advantage - she loved it, but changed it for a new Xsara HDi (needed reliability for work travelling).

Cars still driving well !
The other knocking from the front was lose brake caliper. Sorted with new spacers and the correct tightness.

Re: Front suspension , Drive shaft rebuild, Help
I've seen me getting some bearings out by asking nicely and they simply fall out...then you get the job that you think will be easy and you're there for a month
A job like yours, I've ended up using my Dremel to cut a slot into the bearing carrier after having removed the circlip and trying (and failing) to pull, push, hammer and inventing new swear words. But the Dremel cut the slot and the damn thing was tapped out in seconds.
Good luck fella

Re: Front suspension , Drive shaft rebuild, Help
Update ....
The car is still going strong and a pleasure to drive just did a 74 mile round trip on about £3 worth of diesel at a steady 65 mostly B roads .
It will take a heck of a car to replace this old bus , why do we get old why do we suffer failing joints chronic gut problems and memory issues I've at last found my old faithful and me as a human are falling to bits
