Re: C5 X7: JWS 3309 vs. JWS 3324
3 years and 70000km with 3309 without problems on my HDi240 3.0. It "should" use 3324 officially, like all HDi240 X7´s.
Maybe fuel consumption has been a little higher because of thicker viscosity and I´ve lost some money when using that cheaper oil, but other than that it seems to work just fine.

Re: C5 X7: JWS 3309 vs. JWS 3324
interesting to know! I was thinking that since the transmission is known for heating up very much (according to experts' opinions) it would be better to use a higher viscosity oil like the 3309 to better lubricate the components when higher temperatures are reached?
Maybe I will try the 3309 the next oil change, will it be a mistake?

Re: C5 X7: JWS 3309 vs. JWS 3324
So this has been discussed previously in this and other threads:
You should NOT use JWS 3309 transmission oil in Euro 5 AM6 Gearboxes. JWS 3309 is for the earlier Euro 4 gearboxes on earlier models.
JWS 3324 is for the Euro 5 variants of the AM6 gearbox.
There were different versions of the AM6 gearbox and these varied according to the Euro standards in force at the time and used different oils.
With transmission oil you should always use the recommended oil that meets the right specifications for the right version of the AM6 gearbox fitted. The AM6 has been used for years but has different variations of the gearboxes in the production run.

Re: C5 X7: JWS 3309 vs. JWS 3324
I'm with Marc on this, theres not much difference in price and availabilty anymore, and just remember if you do it wrong something will/could go wrong, but then again a 2nd hand gearbox for a 2.0 Hdi is only £2500 ish!! , 3.0 Hdi more!!, so why worry about specifications!!

Re: C5 X7: JWS 3309 vs. JWS 3324
I trust my experience, and word from Finland´s best automatic gearbox specialist.
In fact it seems that 3309 is better for AM6 without separate oil cooler (as in C5 X7), because oil doesn´t get too thin when gearbox heats up. With thinner 3324 lubrication is way worse when gearbox gets hot, and risk of valve block malfunction is higher. But again, everyone can use just the oil they want.

Re: C5 X7: JWS 3309 vs. JWS 3324
Hi
Your 407 is a DW10BTED4 engine - but is Euro 4 approved, so JWS 3309 is the correct oil (or equivalent - as long as it meets PSA specifications) for this gearbox.
So ESSO ATF 3309 would be perfect and is recommended by Citroen for a Euro 4 AM6 gearbox.

Re: C5 X7: JWS 3309 vs. JWS 3324
Thanks Marc! Just one more question: could you also specify which gearbox do I have, the model type (I know it's aisin am6, but that's all unfortunately). I have a transmission oil leak from the gearbox to the engine cooling system, so the oil cooler need to be replaced, but not sure yet if the cooling liquid didn't get into the gearbox so would like to gather all necessary informations that may be required laterGiveMeABreak wrote: ↑19 Sep 2021, 12:42 Hi

If you require official part numbers, we do ask for a Forum donation, please see details below, as we are charged for this - but at least it will cover you for parts requests for up to 2 years.
As you are probably aware, there are different versions of AM6, so the part numbers vary greatly according to build date and Euro standards.
If you want to go ahead, it will upgrade your membership automatically, then I can sort this for you.

Re: C5 X7: JWS 3309 vs. JWS 3324
Hi Marc, I'm new here and have been reading this topic with great interest. However I'm still stuck on choosing the right oil as I have one of the earlier petrol X7's.
It's a Citroen C5 X7 3.0 V6 petrol 2008. VIN: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
Which oil type would be correct? Thanks in advance.
Regards.

Re: C5 X7: JWS 3309 vs. JWS 3324
Hi
Your petrol X7 with the early AM6 Auto box is Euro 4 compliant, so you need specifically JWS 3309 oil, not JWS 3324 which is for the later Euro 5/6 AM6 gearboxes.
