Re: Big Brother is Watching You (your evidence please)
It is a known phenomenon that people encounter something new to them (a word or phrase, for example), and then start noticing that item keeps cropping up. It is possible that (as you said) there have been plenty of Guinness Zero adverts, but (until that discussion) you had not noticed them. I queried (on the 71 reg post) how many 17 reg vehicles people were now noticing (while looking for the 71 reg), as there would not have been any more on the road than before this month.

You need to change your Browser Neil! They track you through the browser.
I recommend Brave Browser - you'll also find it speeds browsing up incredibly, and automatically blocks all the crap:
https://try.bravesoftware.com/gky370/
I've been using it for a few weeks now to compare with Vivaldi and Opera - and I am actually amazed at how quickly websites load up now!

The reason the mainstream browsers take so long is they have to pre-heat the oven to bake the cookies! (OK, I'll shut up (for a moment!)).

Re: Big Brother is Watching You (your evidence please)
Our Stellantis thread featured today Stellantis getting into bed with Amazon, pretty competent at this big brother data harvesting stuff. viewtopic.php?p=706512#p706512
Our main contact with Amazon is with Amazon Firestick TV, and the odd Amazon purchase from time to time. Today, hats off to them, they managed to come up with a targeted advert on their website for one of these, a Kilner Butter Churner.
Watching an episode of "Our Yorkshire Farm" on the Amazon Fire Stick this morning. They were using one to make butter from Milk from their cow. Never seen one before, never made any internet enquiry or search for one.
Buy a new Stellantis car from 2024, and our friends at Amazon are going to know even more about you than they do right now, probably with little choice to opt out
Regards Neil

So where did that come from?

Re: Big Brother is Watching You (your evidence please)
There is no doubt that my chances of buying a new Stellantis car are zero so not really an issue for me, but it does further strengthen my intention of converting my MX3 to an alternative fuel rather than buy anything with more big brother capability just to reduce my emissions!!

Re: Big Brother is Watching You (your evidence please)
I am sure that I am tracked but rarely see evidence of it.
I bought a new phone a few weeks ago and after about ten days had a thing appear on my Gmail page that showed where I had been during the past period since I bought it.
More concerning was the amount of data that had been used (usually none) so I turned that crap off. I don't need to know where I have been, although it would be nice to know where I am going.
Concerning adverts though. I never see any and haven't for years, other than sometimes on YT there will be a mention of Patrion but this is by the video creator and not an advert added to it, nor targeted except to the video watcher.
I don't watch TV, other than iPlayer, partly as it is mostly uninteresting but also to avoid adverts.
People complain of Google/Amazon adverts. Never see them and do use Gmail considerably (three accounts) and Chromium. Did use Google search by default, always found it OK and better than the rest. That ceased recently with a Linux Mint upgrade and now use Ixquick/Startpage (one and the same) which is allegedly 'safe' but undeniably inferior. Google is not a default Mint search engine and has to be actively installed. A tedious task that takes the best part of a minute. Still waiting to find the energy to do that.
So all this talk of Big Brother keeping his beady one on us seems like paranoia to me.
I will probably disappear during the hours of darkness now.

Re: Big Brother is Watching You (your evidence please)
I'm watching the Hornby programme on "Yesterday" Channel part Of UKTV Play on the Amazon Fire-TV this morning from James' recommendation, following on from my assistance with Airfix model building the other day. Very enjoyable programmes and there are plenty of them.Hell Razor5543 wrote: ↑07 Jan 2022, 11:39 You might want to watch "Hornby - A Model World" on the 'Yesterday' channel. It can be quite interesting.

Let's see if Amazon can come up with some random targeted ads today if we have a browse of Amazon.co.uk later today.

Re: Big Brother is Watching You (your evidence please)
I have mentioned previously about Google tracking my movements. Doesn't bother me at all, I leave m phone at home when I do bank jobs.
It knew where I was when I went to Malcolm's funeral. Also when I went to Brum to see Heather Nova.
Last week it showed where I didn't go when I went to my daughters house. It added about four miles to a three mile trip.
Out of interest I wondered about a short trip to a former colleague, which I guessed was last September, actually turned out to be a year ago.
Nothing. I would have had my phone with me in case I got lost but had also used Google Maps to locate him (he had just moved house) and Gmail to arrange a time.
It always gets my home address wrong too.
Slipped up there!
Off to Northallerton tomorrow, see what sort of a mess it makes of that.

Re: Big Brother is Watching You (your evidence please)
Well I don't mind, I constantly use my speed restrictor, it allows me to look ahead and around to spot potential dangers, ie pedestrians. On the motorway however I can see an arguement against. Those throttle jockeys are a pain in the Harris, pick a speed and stick to it!

I actually don't mind that tech either. If the motoring public was better at motoring, then we wouldn't need it - but they're not...... so we do.

I started using Brave when Chromium turned into crap. It is OK-ish but rubbish in comparison to my old standby Firefox.GiveMeABreak wrote: ↑20 Sep 2021, 14:28 You need to change your Browser Neil! They track you through the browser.

I don't mind the driver activated speed limiter which is a useful tool. I object to the data logger reporting GPS derived information to anywhere.
