Re: ABS/ESR

Post by morto »

Ok im a tad fed up today, part arrived and I fitted it easily , have calibrated it with Lexia and very hit and mis, I started with 10 fault codes on the ESP81 and have got them down to 5, and at one stage down to 4 after getting the ABS light out but this was short lived with the ABS coming back on after 5 mins still got both ESP,ABS, lights on ,, ive also put a new battery in just in case , so after doing the calibration on Lexia it says success and I clear the codes.. unsure what to do now

Well it's not happy about something. Have you checked all the connections on the ESP/ABS ECU? - all these systems feed back into this ECU - if there is a faulty wiring connection or the connector is loose, that could be a cause. The fact that the same messages are appearing intermittently on and off suggest either the faults are remaining, or there is a connection problem on the data network, or electrical connections.

Thank you Marc , I did think maybe connections ive looked at all the wires when they were out and all looked like brand new, I might just have bad luck and maybe the second unit ive bought is faulty , its going to be a tuff one , I don't think there is any way you can test these units

Thank Andy

Check inside the actual plug connectors of the ECUs. Look to make sure the pins are visible and making contact. It is not unknown for a wire to be under strain and pull a pin out or for the wire to have a break. Check the connections near the engine fusebox. Have you got any third party / after market electrical accessories wired in to the car's electrical system anywhere, or have you spliced into or made any electrical wiring connections?

quick update on this I thought I would run the car for a few days just so the ECU can gather some information, now the electronic brake fault sometimes goes out and works correctly and then returns again, and ive gone through Lexia again and done everything it tells me to do but what I cant work out is after doing all calibration Lexia says success it then tells me to delete the fault codes and at that stage I think all is good but then all fault codes come back , the bit I don't get it when it says success I would of thought it would say it cant communicate with it? I know this is a tad over the odds but ive bought another second hand one and just maybe the other one I bought is faulty its just worth a chance if thats no good I will have to seek professional advice at silly money.. Marc I will check all pins and the car does not have anything external on it.. also do you think its worth changing the brake switch sensor?

Thanks
Andy

another update, ive tried another ESP81 and still get loads of faults so I don't think the problem lies with that, I have managed to calibrate the steering wheel sensor , and there is no faults on the FSE so does that mean that then EBC is ok?
can anyone help were I might look for the Gyrometer accelerator sensor signal fault.. it says
SHORT CIRCUIT TO POSITIVE OR SHORT CIRCUIT TO EARTH OR OPEN CIRCUIT
I just don't know were to look? then yesterday it showed no faults EBC worked as in automatic mode until I switched it off then back on ..

thanks

The intermittentcy of the problem is making it difficult to pin down unfortunately. Like I mentioned earlier, one fault i.e. in the ESP system is enough to cause the handbrake automatic functions to be deactivated, cruise control etc. so it's a matter of narrowing down the main fault without replacing expensive parts unnecessarily.

There may be TWO switches in the casing (there is on my C5 Mk1). The main pedal switch (which is a 'push to make' type) is for the brake lights, while the redundant pedal switch (a 'push to break' type) is to disconnect the cruise control (if the stalk is added and the cruise control system is set up). This assumes the brake switch system works in the same way as on MY C5.

Many thanks pal, the cruise has always worked fine, a few things that ive read about my ESP/ASR issue is, Fuse box, ABS complete system, BSI, and the main ECU.. at the end of the day the cars not worth a great deal .. im proper fed up as even with Lexia it all comes down to maybe taking each part out and getting them checked.. has anyone else had this issue and fixed it

thanks

Which replacement brake switch did you get? Did you get the one with the loom, and secondly, did you read and clear all the faults?

Hi Marc I got the one you gave me the link for , it had a separate wiring loom
http://www.eurocarcare.net/switches-rel ... -loom.html

I also read and cleared all faults
