Re: Energy Matters Global and Domestic
My dad worked at the Fylingdales BMEWS station and it was noticed there that the microwaves emitted seemed to scramble the brains of birds that flew in their path. They would just fly around in circles until they dropped dead (uncooked).
I wonder if the replacement phased array radar has the same effect.
I worked on the site briefly but never saw any evidence of it.

IIRC there were areas of the moorland behind Flyingsnales where it was fenced off so you couldn't get there due to the <ahem> high RF that could occur. This would have been back in the days of the golf balls.

Re: Energy Matters Global and Domestic
It was the golf balls days when dad and I were there.
There was a woman who lived in Pickering or Malton who owned a shop in Whitby, drove a Subaru and when she passed Fylingdales the car would die and she would have to have it towed a mile or two before it would start again, eventually had a Faraday cage around some of the electronics that fixed it.
I presumed that the fences were to keep snoopers out. It wasn't the easiest place to get in to.

I have seen Fylingdales looks to me lake a huge loudspeaker cabinet. Apparently many of those who worked on radar during the war suffered cataracts due to the RF radiation involved. I fail to see how beaming large amount's of power to earth is not going to damage anyone who gets in the way - unless someone knows otherwise?

Not at that frequency - I wouldn't think.

Beam it down to the poles (N&S, not Poland) and have a railway to bring it to civilisation.

Why not transport from the poles by nuclear submarine?

There's a problem with that at the south pole though.

Still on the right path despite copious use of cooling devices in the last week!! :

No cooling devices here, apart from the fridge/freezer.
Very little electric, average 3kWh a day, and 1ft³ of gas a week.

Even with our eco-fans in use a fair amount we have still had a surprising reduction against previous years!!
