Re: Energy Matters Global and Domestic
For red diesel you might want to visit a boatyard or marina. Narrowboats are allowed to use red diesel (I know, as Mum lives on a narrowboat), so that should be an option for you.

Re: Energy Matters Global and Domestic
Whilst a grand credit used to be a lot, it isn't so much now... If you're averaging £200 / month that's probably split £100 in the summer /£300 in the winter, so you can easily need a £6-800 credit going into winter to make you come out at evens in the following summer. It's a simple calc on historic use / price / months to work out what the monthly bill should be. Sadly most of the suppliers seem incapable of this sum!! Note that the £67/month credit will stop soon, and the cap is due to go up to £3k in March so that will hike monthly bills. If your supplier doesn't allow you to change the DD on line, then find one that does! Although there is no monetary point in switching, you can do so for better service / manageability.

I trust you are all fully recovered form your 'adventures' when collecting it PeterPeter.N. wrote: 03 Feb 2023, 12:22 I bought a 1500 rpm Petter 3 kw diesel generator a few weeks ago, it weighs about 1/4 ton, I see why they make them 3000 rpm now, but it should be quieter and more economical than the much smaller Chinese one I have, and last longer of course.

Almost thanks Jim. Peterborough hospital made an appointment with Exeter which I attended last week, they examined me then discharged me so they seemed happy. I'm going to have some scars but not to bothered at my age.

Shell adjusted my DD down when the credit looked to be amounting to too much, without any input from me, they just did it.Paul-R wrote: 03 Feb 2023, 07:56 You can query the amount of credit held with them and ask them to justify it. Then you can ask them to refund a suitable portion. I'm sure there's something about this on Martin Lewis's site.

I thought I had heard Red Diesel was going to no longer exist, but seems more complicated than that:Hell Razor5543 wrote: 03 Feb 2023, 12:31 For red diesel you might want to visit a boatyard or marina. I do find that government advice sites can be very poorly written, e.g.
The bit I've underlined could be taken as "restricting it for the list below" rather than what I think it means: "restricted to only those below"This measure introduces legislative changes through Finance Bill 2021 and subsequent secondary legislation to restrict the entitlement to use red diesel and rebated biofuels from April 2022 to the following qualifying purposes:

Thanks for that, our nearest boatyard is at Exeter about 30 miles away. I have got a spare 1000 liter tank but in view of the fact that my last 1000 L of heating oil cost me nearly £1000 I think I will hang fire a bit.

ELECTRIC WALLPAPER
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-64402524
On the BBC news feed this morning and contains some interesting points about ASHP insallations.
I already use this infrared system in my Sitootery and it works well, albeit at full electricity costs. I have also seen a wet system installed in a Polish (?) home owner's ceilings which is just like an upside down underfloor heating system.

Re: Energy Matters Global and Domestic
Its a good idea in some ways but still uses electricity and any electric heater gives the same total heat per watt. Infra red does tend to heat what is in the room rather the the room itself but for a given air temperature it would be no different to any other sort electric heating except for heat pumps which are only really efficient if they are ground source and a very good installation and if it there is a mass migration to them where is the power for electric vehicles coming from?

Re: Energy Matters Global and Domestic
The big pluses in our Sitootery is that no wall or floor space is lost in what is a small room ( 14` x 7` with 3 doors in it ) and we only need extra heat occasionally over the winter when it is too cold for the house air spilling out from the "back" door to the dining area to maintain a comfortable level. We have 3 700w panels and usually only need one running, occasionally 2. So, no worse than a 2 bar fire or it's modern equivalent and, even if an outside door is opened, the heat downwards is still noticeably warming - just don't leave the door open too long.
I mentioned a Polish video where the ceiling housed the wet system coils. What I omitted to say was that it heated the upstairs floors as well so there were no bulky radiators upstairs either. Thermal reflective sheets were put above the coils where heat wasn't needed upstairs/only down.

Re: Energy Matters Global and Domestic
Northern EchoCircular Fuels Ltd have lined up a cutting-edge fuel-from-waste facility for land at Dorman Point – with 250 construction jobs and more than 50 skilled roles in the offing, and dozens more indirect jobs to come from the feedstock and fuels supply chain.
When it’s fully up and running, the £150million plant will be able to produce 50,000 tonnes of fuel per year from non-recyclable household and industry waste by converting it into a safe, cost-effective, and clean burning fuel.
This renewable fuel – called renewable and recycled carbon dimethyl ether (DME) – has similar properties to LPG and can be stored in cylinders and tanks. This means it can serve properties not connected to the national gas grid, which are often some of the hardest to decarbonise.

????
On the face of it that actually looks like a win-win-win situation!! More local jobs, clean fuel for Peter and effectively turning non recyclables into recyclables as a green energy source!!

Re: Energy Matters Global and Domestic
This article about the Hemp Plant ( Canabis ) popped up in the BBC this morning.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-63666195
However, Hemp is not Portugal's only Renewable Insulation.
Cork has a R value of about 3.5 / inch and is insect and rodent repellent, exterior weather proof and can be completely recycled. You can use it inside on walls, floors and ceilings not just as insulation but sound proofing too.
Worth a little read up maybe?
