Re: Dodgy ebay parts - or my incompetence?
Excellent endorsement then Steve.
Braun actually state that they design these to last for 7 years - based on a daily shave of course that would be 2,555 shaves, but I rarely shave everyday so I would expect to at least quadruple that figure
I usually prefer a wet shave and have used those Mach 3 (really?) razors with 4 or 5 blades in - but honestly the prices of the blades are ridiculous now £9-£12 for a pack of 4 or 5 blades.
I lasted all of 2 days with el cheapo throwaway jobbies and had a face like Edward Scissorhands had been let loose on it after a few whiskies - never again.
My Philips from about 20 years ago is still working, but as that takes ages now - with shaver rash after - so I can't be bothered with replacing the heads on it at this stage as it still takes ages to do a proper job.
I'm going for the 9290CC with the clean and charge station that disinfects, cleans, lubes the blades and dries all in one. Plus I can use Gel or foam and use it in the shower / bath as it's a wet and dry one. I know I'm in for a world of pain with buying the alcohol based cleaning cartridges, but again, I'll probably clean it the water and give it a thorough clean in el machino once a week - and that will stretch out the cartridges a bit longer

Skip the cleaning cartridges and give it a slosh in vodka, which you can drink afterwards
I slosh mine in isopropanol periodically.

perhaps one thing to take from this is to re-bush where possible, rather than replace complete.

How do you reach that conclusion? It appears The OP rebushed, the bush failed, so he replaced with complete arms which didn’t cost much more.
FWIW, I always go for complete arms. It doesn’t cost much more and is much less hassle.

Spendthrift.
I can make a pack of five disposables last a couple of years.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Re: Dodgy ebay parts - or my incompetence?
partly for not reading the whole post and not noticing that the Arm had originally been re-bushed
but also with a view that while replacing a bush is substantially more troublesome; if the Chinks are using shoddy second-rate manufacturing processes and/or materials; we're better off retaining what we can of the older parts, where possible
...though its easy to see how it'd be cheaper to replace an arm complete, especially when paying a Garage for their Labour.

Its not just me then, I use the Gillette Mach 3 also; and while I don't think I get as much as a couple of years from a 5 pack; I certainly get over a year

Blimey, they don't last that long? If they do..buy a cat, however the cat food may be more expensive than the blades. I just cut the beard off every 2 weeks, good during the winter months.

If I left it that long it will touch my chest, the chest hairs touch the other bits, then my legs and end up at my big toe knuckle, one big all in one onesie.

The last few I’ve done myself, I can swap an arm in 30 mins these days. By the time a car is old enough to get to me, I’m pretty sure it won’t have many original consumable parts left
