Jim's POTD has, in the building with the old National Petrol sign, a garage emblazoned with Haynes and Co Engineers/Hauliers

There is always interest in a picture Peter especially a nostalgic one. Was that Kent/ Petts Wood...dont recall seeing the photo on here. Would I be right in the phone number for the garage being RAV 6060 :?: Can't quite work out what RAV would stand for.

See the advert for Daren Bread on the wall above. Someone looked that up and came up with this...an interesting browse...

Me too Gibbo except perhaps the Bradford.

Neil

RAV is Ravensbourne most if not all of Bromley used that exchange, its a small river that runs from Keston ponds out to the Thames somewhere, Deptford perhaps. Our exchange in Petts Wood was 'Imperial' don't know where that came from it was also used in Chislehurst. When I worked in London it was 'City 1124' and our number when we moved here in 1970 was 'Charmouth 556'. How things have changed! Thanks for the Daren bread info.

Well Peter, I can now reveal why that exchange was called Imperial code IMP.

All to do with this chap

Napoléon, Prince Imperial (Napoléon Eugène Louis Jean Joseph Bonaparte; 16 March 1856 – 1 June 1879), also known as Louis-Napoléon,

The family settled in England at Camden Place in Chislehurst, Kent. Upon his father's death in 1873, Bonapartists proclaimed him Napoleon IV. On his 18th birthday, a large crowd gathered to cheer him at Camden Place.

Thank you Neil font of wisdom. Charles De Gaulle lived in Petts Wood during the war, on the posh side that is.

Not a Bradford Peter a 1940s Bedford. I did look hard at it at first myself thinking is it a Bradford.

No Mick that's how I bought them, then I fixed them up and sold on at a profit. :)

A revival of the "Two Wrestlers" for the class of 2024 inspired by Zel's Trabant MOT and Matts Black and White reworking of Zel's image of the Trabant at the Wrestlers image.
CitroJim wrote: 19 Jan 2021, 13:26 My favourite local garage, The Two Wrestlers in Newport Pagnell... Located just opposite the Aston Martin Heritage Works... So easy to mistake one for the other

Image

The garage does not go in for flash MoT bays  Strictly functional and hang the decor... That applies to the entire establishment and the buildings look derelict at first sight... Against that, they do an excellent job and have an enviable local reputation... Basic, down to earth and honest :D

A view of another part of the establishment :D

This garage is never quiet and always has a waiting list. They specialise in older cars and understand hydraulic Citroens :D

Since the thread is entitled Ancient and Modern here is an example of the latter for comparison, with my MX3 undergoing scrutiny:
