Re: C4 VTS - Adding front parking sensors

Post by GiveMeABreak »

I've checked the connections and the fronts are routed through 15 F/AV, then into an interconnection, then to 10PR (BSI), then another interconnect, then another harness 46 HAB. These are common harness names although the actual harness changes according to build and specs.

No help there.

Thank you very much for your help.

If you could share pictures of the interconnections it would be very helpful in order to know where I can check.

Hi

Before I am buying the front parking sensors I wanted to see if this option will work on my car - for that I changed the following in the BSI and Parking ECU
In the BSI I changed the "Type of parking assistance" to rear and front ( picture shows the original configuration which is Rear)

Image

In the parking aid ECU I changed the "presence of front sensors" to yes ( picture shows the original configuration which is NO)

Image

After doing the above I expected that when engaging to the 1 st gear I'll get a message that front sensors are missing or at least the car outline ( as when engaging reverse gear ) but nothing happened - I didn't get any message and no car outline was seen

Is that normal when front sensors are not installed - just for information when I did this test the Lexia was hooked

Thanks

There are other settings that need to be configured.

There are a lot of other options: Presence of a buzzer, the presence of an Audio system, Confirmation of activation of the unit by a beep, Presence of Front Sensors (which you have done), Presence of the measurement of available space function, buzzer volume (if applicable), Front obstacles detection activation / deactivation vehicle speed value (km/h), Type of gearbox & Origin of the obstacles detection deactivation information (Built-in systems interface (multiplexed). Parking assistance (by wire). etc.

Is what you written is applicable if the rear sensors are working as they should ? Is there any thread describing all the required configurations ?

Thanks

The above options will either be in the parking assistance ECU or in the BSI - Some options may well be configured already on your C4 as you have the rear system already and probably have an audio system, but I wanted to make you aware of what the options are. An example is the buzzer option is usually only for vehicles without an audio system, so that the buzzer is used instead of the beeping from the speaker system. Just make sure you have the correct options set.

Hi

I checked all related and none related menus with the Lexia and cannot find anything else should be configured but the ones I configured:

"Type of parking assistance" to "rear and front"
"presence of front sensors" to "yes"

Maybe the parking assistance ECU should be downloaded with a different SW or if none of the front parking sensors are connected no information will be displayed including a warning in the absence of a sensor

Thanks

The ECU for the Front-Rear Assistance is the same as the Rear only in this case as fitted to your car (for the benefit of others reading this).

There is no warning for missing or absent sensors - the system either works or does not, so if one of the sensors is faulty, then it generally prevents the whole system working and throws a fault up. But without the front sensors actually wired into the ECU it won't take effect as the system won't be able to communicate with them regardless of the configuration.

Marc,

I went back to the car in the thought that I forgot to configure some parameter. I hooked the Lexia again and browsed to the Parking aid and there was a fault indicating that the front LH sensor is missing - I switched the car on and engaged to reverse and got a message that there is a fault in the parking assistance. So I guess that now once I'll install the front parking sensor all will be OK. I then erased the fault and changed the setting both at the BSI ECU and at the Parking aid ECU. Switched the car off and on but still had the Parking assistance error when engaged to reverse. I erased the fault in the parking aid ECU again but the fault was persist. It turns out that to overcome this problem one have to erase the fault at the Parking aid ECU switch off the car and then disconnect the main supply from the battery this resolved the fault and all works as before .

Thanks a lot for the help

Regards

Ok, the BSI sometimes needs to 'go to sleep' after shutting the car's ECUs down and restart for changes to take effect. just turning the ignition off won't o it as the BSI remains awake until all the doors are shut and then after a 2-3 minute wait. But following the following when disconnecting / connecting the battery will prevent errors:

BSI Reset / Battery Disconnect / Reconnect Procedure

At least you know it works now.

Hi

I detached the front bumper but could not find the front parking sensors harness Citroen part number 656886 . From the service history I know hat the front bumper has been changed so I guess the garage who did the job removed this harness. I hope to find a used one.

Thanks

Hello,

This weekend I tried to install the front parking sensors on my C4.
I already have the rear parking sensors.
Both Parking Assistance ECU and Head Unit ECU are compatible because I could program it with the front and rear mode.

So I decided to install the front parking sensor and to connect it to the connector pre-installed under the hood.
It occurred that I've got an error with the front parking sensor. I then realise with a scheme that the harness isn't connected to the Parking Assistance ECU. I discovered some wires not connected near this area (not sure it could be for front parking sensor) but there is no continuity with the harness under the hood. So I don't understand, could it be possible that the harness is partially installed ? From the hood to the back Parking Assistance ECU is there an other connector ?

Did you menage to sort it ? Where are the wires that are not connected ( I mean at which part of the car you see the discontinuity ? )

Thanks
