Re: Lights! (Interesting and Awful please)
Wasn't aware of the Peugeot system but Mercedes have a similar one that looks horrifying.
I'm sure that if they don't already have them that BMW, Audi and Rolls-Royce will soon follow suit.

Moderately interesting rear light cluster-nice angular shapes

SAAB Rear ends. Granted the lights on the left hand example fit in with the general "lardiness" (thanks Jim for that word) of the design, but the arrangement on the right is much more appealing both in overall design and how the light clusters fit into it.

Nice and simple, refreshingly not festooned with "fog" lights

Ahh! proper lights... Form and function together... Looks like they're sealed beams rather than the similar looking ones fitted with pre-focus bulbs.
I love the proper glass 'beehive' indicators too

Re: Lights! (Interesting and Awful please)
I wonder what engine it has... Not being able to see the plate I can't check but if it's fairly early and the real thing it may have either the 1071 or 970 homologation special. It may just be late enough to have the 1275 S engine... If very early it may have the 997 engine...
The 970 was a fantastic engine by A-Series standards - massively oversquare with big valves and is a real revver...

DVLA have it recorded as 1275 cc Date of first registration 1st January 1966.CitroJim wrote: 01 Aug 2024, 17:18 I wonder what engine it has... Re: Lights! (Interesting and Awful please)
Ahh yes, at that age the 1275 S is absolutely correct... It was the precursor of the ordinary 1275 which soon appeared in many BMC cars and would live right up to 2002'ish but was a very different animal internally with additional strengthening webs, a crank and rods made of rather exotic steel, heat-treated in rather arcane ways and having larger bearing journals. A proper 1275 S engine is still very much sought after. They're rare and command very high prices...NewcastleFalcon wrote: 01 Aug 2024, 17:30DVLA have it recorded as 1275 cc Date of first registration 1st January 1966.CitroJim wrote: 01 Aug 2024, 17:18 I wonder what engine it has... Well after a reasonably good going over the evidence I think we can conclude it very much looks like the genuine article.

Re: Lights! (Interesting and Awful please)
I believe so Neil. As a final check, pop its front wheels off and see if it has the proper original Dunlop disc brakes...NewcastleFalcon wrote: 01 Aug 2024, 17:53 Well after a reasonably good going over the evidence I think we can conclude it very much looks like the genuine article.![]()

Dunlop designed and developed, independently of BMC and Cooper, a disc braking setup for the 10" Mini wheels to see if it was feasible. Nothing more than an engineering exercise.
It worked and the Mini Cooper was the beneficiary.

Tongue in cheek request I know Jim, but strangely enough, its wheels will be popping off at some time todayCitroJim wrote: 02 Aug 2024, 05:53I believe so Neil. I would have no qualms about asking the question given the right opportunity but...wandering into the workshop while they are working on a customer's car is just too rude/impolite/nosey to happen.![]()

Re: Lights! (Interesting and Awful please)
Noticed the "Red" bit on the top of the wing light which is an interesting bit of design how that wing light is moulded into the top of the wing line. Probably absolutely pointless for any benefit to illumination.
