There was an 08 C5 X7 VTR saloon there as well, parked in the bay for vehicles with fluids to be drained. As the engine bay was warm I have to assume the engine runs.

BB Clio is now about 18 years old, 65,000 ish miles. Its a Clio Mk II and they now appear to be a bit of a rarity in our local scrapyards. Only 1 example an 05 reg, in 3 large yards, and its headlights were slightly less opaque than the BB Clio, but not so clear as to be a guaranteed pass in an MOT assessment.

CBS was on the invoice.

Over 12 Months since this thread was given a bit of and airing, and as happens with such things, it slips well down the active topics list, and viewers and posters forget it exists, or indeed that its pages do contain some excellent information.

Todays entry concerns this.

A 15 year old Citroen C3 and the bodywork and paint and interior is unmarked. Back in the 70's 80's the scrapyards were full of proper rusted out cars of the relevant age equivalent of that Citroen. Its not quite at the scrapyard, but has been donated to the Fire Service to be used in training in using the cutting equipment. Don't know the process but agencies like this I found do offer a middleman service, to facilitate donation of your vehicle, with the proceeds less their fees being subsequently donated to a charity of your choice.

I think the last couple of times I scrapped cars and they were collected by a bona-fide ATF, it was all done on-line but no certificate of destruction for me, as the bit declared was the on-line declaration equivalent of "Give the ATF the vehicle log book (V5C), but keep the yellow ‘sell, transfer or part-exchange your vehicle to the motor trade’ section from it."

The car does look too good to scrap, but maybe the ABS or Airbag light was on and the estimate for sorting it out was too much!

Just to make everyone jealous, there are still a few like this in France. (None that good near me unfortunately).

There's a car breaker's yard that I pass on our way through France that I would dearly love to have a wander round for a day. Unfortunately we're always in a hurry going either up or down so have never managed it yet.

Gibbo this morning posted an interesting video about what must be the most modern and integrated scrapyard ( vehicle recycling facility) in the Country.

thread here viewtopic.php?p=775590#p775590

Impressive indeed, no mud, or Alsatians in sight!

Their dismantling line process ends up with a warehouse of boxed and palleted parts sold directly through Ebay

I think the gearbox is far better value than the seat! Not that I need either :-D

I have a feeling their pricing is much more market biased than value. It seems to me that 20 year old car owners are more likely to be up to replacing their own seats than their gearboxes, thus only the trade is likely to want gearboxes and they won't pay the same rate structure as the enthusiast would! :)

I got the whole BB Micra for £50 less than the price of that seat when the £60 postage is added on!

I visited a couple of yards here in NZ looking for an alternator for the 308.

Mostly only Japanese wrecks 10 to 20 years old, but I was surprised to see these.

BTW, I found a 308 alternator but after removing it discovered that the freewheeling pulley was seized. Scrapyard staff had never heard of a freewheeling pulley so would not give a discount.

At the second yard I found a Mini Cooper 2009 with the alternator lying on the ground beside it, so I bought that and fitted it. It seems to be working, but is only 120A, not the original 150A. Who needs 150A?
