I had a very old book with the perpetual motion devices illustrated many and varied with water, weights, pendulums etc. none of which worked of course.
I think I sold the book on ebay a few years ago.

This video came out the other day and might add to the history of the Otto cycle engine.

If you are a biker you are going to cringe when you see what happened to this engines inventor.

A bit of an outlier but may be of interest.

That 'perpetual motion' wheel obviously has exceedingly efficient bearings and so needs very little power to sustain it. I wonder if that grill has a microphone behind it which generates a small output from ambient noise?

I did wonder if the fact that the axle centre line was above the frame to which the horseshoe magnet(s) are attached was relevant ? I could imagine there being small magnets (attracting or repelling) mounted in the three boxes on the wheel and the fact that they would pass the horseshoe magnet(s) below the centre axle line of the might have a bearing on the "machine's" long duration of motion.

I always thought that a Rootes blower was so named as it was made by the Rootes Group (Hillman etc.).

Interesting that, we have probably come across most of those gears but didn't know what they were called, except C5 owners wo are well versed in rack and pinion.

Hi Peter, I'm keen to find out more about the Perkins/Rover Iceberg V8 diesel. Please could you post scans of the other pages of the leaflet? I'm particularly keen to see the torque figures.

Many thanks, Mark B

There's one of these engines in the British Motor Museum in Gaydon (or there was when I went there 30 years ago!) and the Internal Fire - Museum of Power was expecting delivery of one six years ago viewtopic.php?p=588482#p588482

I will see if I can find them Mark, put them somewhere to keep dry - but I don't remember where.
