heavy missing noise

Post by goose »

on the way back from cheltenham to cardiff last nite and about 10 miles from home a few bangs from the engine occured
so i pulled over and stopoped the engine checked all was ok then started her up agen
the zx was missing like no mans business
so i had to make the further part of the journey running off 3 cylinders
so theres me thinkin i need to check and change the plugs or one of the ht coils!!
but!!!!
woke up this morning and all was ok
any body know how this cud occur and then stop???
ive changed all the plugs and found a suspect ht coil but i cant seem to get it to miss agen so i can check if its problem solved!!
HELP!!!!

few bangs - like backfiring - or from exhaust ?
- could simply be a Coil missing the connection on it's plug.
Now gone as you have been there !
But it's known that these single coils are prone to fail - at elevated temp's only - nothing clearly found with an ohm's tester when cold.
Try let the engine idle - then heat the suspect coil (or each one in turn) with a hairdrier. It takes quite a while before the heat propagates thru the coil. Don't melt/burn the coils though !

checked all coil plugs were on and they were
there was a suspect coil
it wudnt stay put wen u pushed it in it wud move out and release it self from the spark plug with the engine movement
ive ordered a ht coil from citroen so i can have a play and see which one it is but id put my money on that one!!
another question ... can u use some sort of cleaner on ht coils inside the rubber part and outside if so wat?????

Any degreaser - petrol, alcohol, engine cleaner etc.
Then spray/brush the rubber with silicone spray/fluid to protect/preserve the rubber.
