Re: C5 battery eco mode problem
My DiagBox system is running V 7.15, as the hardware appears to be a Rev B unit. I have, in the past, used it on an X7 to enable the DRLs. If my equipment is up to the job I would be prepared to try (and my printer is now currently busy printing out five pages of instructions!).
I am going to be away for a couple of days, and may not be able to check on the forum. I will be back on Wednesday, and (possibly) available from midday onwards (although I will post here when I am ready to go).

Re: C5 battery eco mode problem
Hi Marc & James
Thanks James.
Not sure how a VIC + Diagbox compares with Lexia or how they work or are used. If I bought one would either be able to be used on my ageing Xantia with problems? How do these things work and do they come with instructions?
John

The VCI is the Vehicle Communication Interface - physical part that connects your laptop to the diagnostic port of the car. Diagbox is the latest software that is used to diagnose and fault find / clear / undertake certain procedures that is used by the dealer. Diagbox is used for PSA cars after circa 2007 and Lexi (for Citroen) or PP2000 (Peugeot) is automatically launched if required - by Diagox for older cars.
These are not official tools but clones, so be prepared to have issues - as everyone has different spec'd laptops and other factors that make installation potentially different from one system to another. There is no officia guidance as you would expect, as they are not officially sanctioned devices.
There is plenty of help on the web and here - or there are members on the Forum that offer their services free - or for some travel costs. There is also a link on the Diagnostics forum to a supplier many members use - with a discount should you decide to purchase one. Be aware that there are some cheaper versions available on the web, that may not gave all the hardware components and may not fully fuction with the C5 and other cars as a result. Go for a Revision 'C' - full chip kit.

Re: C5 battery eco mode problem
Hi
Been away so have made no further progress on altering the setup params but, as the car had been standing for a few days I decided to measure the following before and during a 50 mile motorway run:-
battery voltage before starting car - 11.93v
immediately after stopping at the end of the 55 mile run - 12.51v (only 80% charged??)
after car had stood for a further 3 hours - 12.32v (60% charged ??)
Please can anyone explain why this should be so?
regards
John

Re: C5 battery eco mode problem
Is the battery a recent one?
It is possible that it is failing internally and discharging itself. Ideally needs to be checked off the car - full charge then observe what happens with it.
I will say here that I have an ancient battery on my workbench, came out of the car a few years ago but there was actually nothing wrong with it, just under-specced for the car. It has a voltmeter on it permanently and takes ages to reduce to <12V when it is then charged for an hour or so. Gets used to run LEDs on tests and lasts for days on end.
Are you able to put it on a charger for 24 hours or longer to be certain it is fully charged. Even a 50 mile run may not be sufficient to properly charge it if it is somewhat depleted before setting off and depending on what electrical equipment is being used.

Re: C5 battery eco mode problem
It won't charge up to capacity in 55 miles John - don't forget the car is running all the electrical systems at the same time. It should be charging at about 14.0 or more when running, and will show at about 12.6V when fully charged.
Some systems will continue to run in the background - even with the car switched off.

Re: C5 battery eco mode problem
Be aware that most "12v" batteries, charged at 14.4 to 15.5v (depending on the installation), will show a high-ish voltage across their terminals immediately after charging. This settles down to a 'proper' fully-charged figure of about 12.6v after being allowed to stand.
_________
The more gradual the charge, and the longer it's performed for, the higher the immediate off-charge figure will tend to be - which is partly why "caretaker" chargers like CTEK are so good, while also avoiding over-charging.
Have just checked our XM (3-year-old Yuasa YBX3096), which is left attached to a CTEK MXS 3.8 intelligent charger when not in use. After two or three days of being left on charge, removing the charger shows a battery terminal voltage of 13.50v. The car is still connected to it, and there's a quiescent ('everything off') current drain of about 30mA. The 13.50 figure drops by about 0.01v every 5 secs or so. This is the battery 'settling down'.

Re: C5 battery eco mode problem
Both of mine go into eco mode a few seconds after switching on, if not instantly. Its a bit of an irritation but I've got used to it - just like the auto seat position change.
