Both magnets are in place it looks like the reed switch is knackered so will need replacing either way what about you Marc do you think it's worth a try??

Reed switches (and their magnets) are extremely cheap.
Take care with orientation (N-S) of the magnet, as it can affect the action of the switch. Test first.
Those resistance values are curious: 150k open, 15R closed. Would expect infinity and near-zero, unless resistors are also included.

Ok chaps put a Reed switch on the fuel filler cap cleared the fault codes and all running a sweet as a nut cannot believe that's a little switch like that could cause so much trouble. I would like to thank you all very much for your help in this it is very much appreciated I am now one happy chappy

Delighted you fixed it so painlessly and for far less that the dealer would have extracted from you - where on earth do they get their prices from?

Jim always says they have a random number generator in the accounts department :)
