Unfortunately with regard to the electro pumps - it's all the Euro trash - make everything lighter, recyclable, don't put any extra strain on the engine so as to get another couple of metres travel on a tank of fuel mentality. Having a mechanical pump running all the time on the engine? Sacre bleur.

Worth checking the current pull of that pump, and seeing what sort of strain the 40A fuse is coping with.
I have the 75-0-75A version of the Sealey ammeter here, and found it really useful (and accurate). Last time was sorting out glow-plug feed, where one solitary OE 2.5mm2 cable from GP relay to GP 'rail' was optimistically being expected to do the job. The car now has a second cable in parallel with it (as had earlier cars), of 4mm2, and GP current is now what BERU specify. The reward is immediate starting, even from cold.

That's true, I would have preferred Citroen use a belt driven hydraulic pump but perhaps use a electromagnetic clutch (like the A/C compressor) so that it's not constantly dragging on the engine (if they're so bothered by that)
Yeah I'll definitely look into that Sealey ammeter, however, I may spend a touch more and get a digital clamp meter that can do other things too,

Make sure that the digital clamp meter will also handle DC current; some of them are intended for AC use only in clamp-mode.
