Re: C5 X7 Steering Rack - Again!
They dont come up as valid Citroen part number on any Citroen model, Maybe these are numbers stamped on the rack?
The original number part number was 400165 before it was superseded to 9801415480.
Not sure i would take ebay sellers part nos as gospel.

The numbers 9685708680 7832974202 are on the sticker and stamped on the rack so both can't be wrong. Not taking any chances so will leave that one.
How about this one?

Re: C5 X7 Steering Rack - Again!
PSA’s part numbers are very rarely marked on the components themselves, the numbers found on components are normally the manufacturers part number this will be a ZF (or whoever it is that makes the racks) own part number. The numbers i gave you from the VIN are Citroen’s part numbers for the racks.
Same with sensors etc the number on the label will be a Bosch part no but PSA Will have their own number for it.

Re: C5 X7 Steering Rack - Again!
Yep, those are the component manufacturers numbers. Like i said citroen very rarely put thier part number on the component itself, the Citroen part no will be on the box or packaging the part comes in. In some cases of parts that cant really be packaged (eg large body panels) you will find the same type of sticky label that you find on the parts boxes stuck on the part.
If you went into a dealers with any of those numbers they wont tie up to looking the part up by VIN.

Re: C5 X7 Steering Rack - Again!
My question is about the number on the rack I have posted. It looks like a PSA number to me so wasn't sure what Wheeler meant by
as the format of the number is similar.Like i said citroen very rarely put their part number on the component itself, the Citroen
Also it is interesting that
- could it be a rack from a Peugeot? They dont come up as valid Citroen part number on any Citroen model

Re: C5 X7 Steering Rack - Again!
I understand the confusion as the number on the rack is in a similar format to the (superseded) part number that a citroen dealer parts department would use to order the part. Some part numbers are only 5 digits long but may have much longer numbers printed/ stamped on the component.

Re: C5 X7 Steering Rack - Again!
Stick to the original part number reference - there are different racks for different X7s, and they can have different steering angles.

Re: C5 X7 Steering Rack - Again!
Doesent come up as a valid part number (that the parts dept would use) on Citroen, DS, Peugeot or (PSA based) Vauxhall.
If you have a look at this recent thread you will see the same sort of thing about part numbers on an FSE module.

Re: C5 X7 Steering Rack - Again!
If it is the same model, same engine code (DW10BTED4), transmission, suspension, wheels how could the steering angle be different?GiveMeABreak wrote: ↑21 Jan 2022, 11:15 Stick to the original part number reference - there are different racks for different X7s, and they can have different steering angles.

Updated with link to table
Because they are. Even for the same engine, some are 180 and others 184 degrees, and depends on the build date vehicle wheel sizes. Please refer to this post for a table with more information:

Re: C5 X7 Steering Rack - Again!
It is not just the same engine. The difference you mention could be because of different transmission, different suspension - but if these are also the same then what else can account for the difference, if there is indeed one?
