i've had a few over the years starting off at the cheap end and all hardwired via 'piggyback' fuses on a switched fuse.
just replaced mine and OH's with 2 312GW's and a spare mount for the C5 so when she jumps from the 500 or me from the work van it's just a case of sliding the camera off the magnetic mount..simple
the first one i bought on a Thursday and the OH's on a Sunday, both from Halfords @ £79 = £20 for the spare mount, cheapest available at the time, had different software spec so, as you do, i started updating both of them......neither of them liked being plugged into a USB wall socket...oops!! back to Halfords with receipts and sheepishly claiming both units failed

exchanged no problem and now both doing well
nice clear screen, easy menu and wifi enabled to download to smartphone and also access settings on there too.
a good user interface on the PC as well, the usual date, time, speed and GPS stamps to see exactly where on Google maps you were.
night pics are pretty good as well, barring the direct light from oncoming vehicles and a wide screen view.

Taxing and Insuring the 'new' C5 from tomorrow so need to sort out mount some time soon and find a switched fuse in the glovebox, i briefly tried a couple of weeks ago but i'm thinking a pulling and re-fitting session is about to happen along with some cursing

Just a note, I don't know if "pulling & refitting" is a good practice with X7 electrics/ecu's. They are a little touchy :)

Do you have a C5 now or are you making reference to your C5 replacement as per your profile?

I gave up on an X7 2yrs ago, still have a little 'inner' chuckle now as i read about the steering racks :(

'new' whip is an '06 VTR auto, i didn't follow the C5 chronological order properly , it's now i realise just how good a motor the old Jelly mould mk1 was.

Fear not, the fire extinguisher will be on standby....or the big hammer if i fail miserably :-D

profile and sig now updated for clarity
