I already found that out after wiring in my dash camera and it remained on after ignition off and of course caused battery drain.

I use my wireless mp3 player thingy plugged into the accessory socket and that turns off,but the cig lighter next to it has constant 12 v

you should be fine with that one then, just need to locate the fuse and take a piggy back of it.

If it's of any help to anyone here, I have two spare piggyback fuse holders (standard size blade fuses only) which I can post out sometime during the week. No charge.

I've seen a separate electronic relay thing for sale on eBay which controls LED lights. I might guess it monitors voltage in the system and says 12v lights off 13v lights on (in other words is the alternator running). If that is indeed how it works you could fit it anywhere convenient under the bonnet, connected live all the time, instead of tracking down or feeding through a switched or accessory lead.

As for the cigarette lighter, on some cars this can be switched between on with ignition key or always on. I think on my Xantia this is done with two alternate fuse positions (three sockets, move the fuse sideways), same as for the radio.

Not any more Andy! :-D We have multiplexing now and the BSI controls all that - not switchable by fuses on most Post 2001 cars.

Ha ha, sorry, should have thought of that, haven't got one that new yet

Come to think of it, the relay thing I'm on about probably isn't quite that simple, also needing a headlight input so as to turn the running lights off when headlights on.

i think some people have used them and the DRL's can behave oddly for a while after switching off as the voltage rise and falls, and as you said, they're wired into the lights which isn't what i want.
