There's no pump as such in the tank on the XUD models at least, just the pickup and sender unit. The gauze can be cleaned as Jim says, rather than replaced.

Going to look up this Marine 16 stuff, I'd guess it's some sort of anti-bacterial additive used in boat tanks (where, as I mentioned, this stuff is/was more prevalent.) Could be useful.

Have a read of that article someone linked to this oost from memory.

It's a cleaner they use in canal boats. Rates highly in killing the bacteria.

I have encountered the microbes in a previous life when I owned a small yacht! I sailed from Crinan to Plymouth as navigator on a friends yacht and the fuel tank was thick with the stuff. I forms at the diesel water interface in the fuel tank. Remember it well as we had to keep stopping and cleaning out the pump as it clogged up. This was in a F8 gale and not at all amusing, even in a 42 footer. Apparently the cure is to clean the tank and refill but with a biocide additive, the name of which Ii cannot remember; if I can find out will post. Yes it is b....dy awful stuff, but the additive does a good job. Meths does absorb the water, but you atill need to make sure your tank is water free on refill.
