Don't know.
There's not much info on there (or in the catalogue) tbh.
Might be worth dropping them a line?

As I said previously I wanted to test the idea of an oil filter on the AM6.

I saved the oil from my previous flush and set up the filter mount with the cheapest filter I had (the K&n one) I also used a £6 submersible pump too, this is the basic setup:

Image

This was the old oil, quite dark with the only colour being a touch of brown:

I had to mix the old oil with paraffin as the cheap pump I have was only designed for diesel and thin fluids.

And here is the setup working, excuse the mess

Now the pump says it can only run for 10 mins at a time so although it was only £6 I don't want to burn it out needlessly. Therefore, I'll run it as much as I can over this weekend, it'll be the equivalent of many hundreds of passes through the filter.

When I'm done I'll crack the filter open and see what has been trapped by the paper elements.

Done that too. Acetic acid and sodium hypochlorite. Very quick exit required.

Well, experimentation is kind of my business at the moment. It's only natural I extend it to my side projects too :-D

The pump has been running all day today so I'll cut it open tomorrow and inspect the paper element for any crud.

Visually when I check a sample of oil with white paper it seems a touch redder so that's promising.

Regardless, I've already bought the sandwich plate so the car is either getting an oil cooler or an oil filter....or both :rofl2:

Hello. How is this sandwich? Did you install an additional radiator and filter?
I'm manufacturer these parts for additional cooling and Me too interesting you opinion. In our near post soviet space installing additional cooling and filtering is very popular as upgrading.

Hi there, I never actually finished this project as I have been very busy but it is something I would like to finish.

My plan was to use the sandwich plate and a spin-on filter housing with a very fine filter, then a thermostatic oil radiator for cooling.

I found that the gearbox oil radiators fitted to Mercedes cars have an integral oil thermostat which would be useful in the build.

I purchased a gearbox oil radiator from a Mercedes B class and hopefully I will fit it to my car soon.

What are your plans?

mercedes radiator from A/B klasse with thermostat has hot thermostat with 95 deg start opening temperature,
apparently, they are very concerned about the environment-ecology, and not about the durability of the gearbox. VW Passat B6 has external radiator with integated thermostat with start temp opening 75 deg - is it most better temp for automatic transmission. Part numbers 3C0317019C 8MO376747131
Or you can use original/dublicate thermostat from VW touareg/Audi Q7/Porsche Cayenne manufacturer Mahle/Behr to975 (cheap and good quility) but it only body without fitting. For normal use need to made/buy fittings for 10 mm hose

I wonder if additional cooling is of any advantage on the AM6, mine seems to work better when warmed up than when started on cold mornings.

You right. warm gearbox working better than cold. but overheated gearbox often works bad: kicks, jerks etc.
additional radiator with thermostat not increases warming time also it help to limit upper temp no more 85-90 deg
here can see some installation examples (for English tap "autotraslated" in right top of page)

That's really interesting. And something I hope to replicate.

Over the past few days I have located the parts I have previously bought for the project.

I may look into getting a radiator with thermostat from one of the cars you mentioned before with the 75-degree thermostat though.

I've currently got the front off the vectra so here's a picture of my cooler fitted to my vectra. Simple air-cooled "radiator".

Has sat infront of the intercooler for the last 140,000 miles, no problems, and the box (known as an Aisin AF40-6 in GM circles but is the same Aisin TF-80SC also known as (AWF21, AM6, AW6A-EL)) is still working well at 200,000 miles (rebuilt at 60,000).
