When I was a kid you could buy an Austin 7 for a fiver. I paid £100 eventually for my 1939 Ford Prefect.

On the packet it is spelt the American Way for some reason. Can't remember the last time I had liquorice, no doubt it would have been in the form of liquorice allsorts rather than an imp or a Pontefract Cake, or a sherbet fountain, or liquorice laces.

3d when I bought my first one Peter and if you ate a whole one it was big enough to make you sick.

I don't remember that, not that it would make me sick but 3d. Used to get them in the kiosk on Chelsfield station on the way home from school.

My grandmothers sister - great aunt? used to save all her farthings fo me, she would give me a bagful when I visited. I would go to the ice cream shop on Bromley high street and put a handful down on the counter - they loved me!

If anyone knows Bromley High street, Kent this is (or was), there was a coffee shop that used to roast the beans in the window and exhaust the fumes out of the front of the shop. Smelled fantastic, don't know if its still there, it was some time ago when I visited. The bottom half of the street has been pedestrianised for some years now.

I tried a Caramac bar the other day, for old time's sake as I used to enjoy them as a boy...

Somehow the modern ones just don't taste the same. In fact I found it awful... I guess the recipe has changed? But then again, since Covid my taste has been a bit different...

I don't know Bromley at all but we used to have a simiiar shop in Watford High Street. It was the Lyons Tea shop which sold many, many different blends of tea and coffee. They roasted every day I assume as the aroma was always drifting around that part of the High Street. Later they added an eatery at the back of the shop and so became a Lyons Tea Room! :)

My wife was complaining that modern biscuits weren’t as hard are they used to be, I explained the she hadn’t developed her nagging muscles then. She’s still not talking to me, so everything has turned out nice.

This might be appropriate for this thread... Posted in POTD here: viewtopic.php?&t=53436&p=765258#p765258

I was reluctant to just post here as they may still be in regular use although I cannot recall seeing any in the establishments I've visited recently...
