Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
I do indeed Peter, I've had a plethora of irons over the years including Weller, Ryobi and others. I currently have two options to use and a third useless one because it is my ex BT 50V iron as used on jumpering frames in Exchanges!! The useful ones are a mains power 25W iron from Wickes and a Minicraft 12v iron with its own power pack which also runs a drill head and a light!

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Could that have been due to an influx of foreigners do you think?

Ahh, the friend of the TV field service engineer... I had a Weller Instant Heat gun for years with the copper hoop tip - the TV serviceman's favourite... They could be a bit of a loose cannon on a PCB if you were not careful!Peter.N. wrote: 29 May 2023, 16:08 Remember the soldering irons? we had a Primax quick heat gun with a very low resistance copper bit, easily replaceable if you burnt it out as over zealous use would.
I still have a few irons now, a couple of Weller TCP for usual use but still have a 125W biggie and a 50W Weller for bigger stuff... And a little 15W Antex somewhere...

Now we have lead free solder most of the old irons don't get hot enough, I have to try and dilute the lead free with 'proper' solder a bit at a time. Or use the iron you heated on the gas ring or a blow lamp - remember those Jim?

I remember them well Peter. Mum used to go bonkers when she caught me with my iron on the gas stove!! Usually for soldering white metal model locos and to be fair to her I probably didn't clean up properly afterwards!!

Take the 'to her' out of that and it will probably be more honest.mickthemaverick wrote: 30 May 2023, 16:48 I remember them well Peter. Keep an eye out for Teenage Mutant HERO turtles, not ninja, on your travels to remote places. They are worth hundreds of pounds, wish I kept my childhood toys....

Gosh, seems only yesterday they were the most 'must have' toy... How time flies... I'm staggered at how some Star Wars stuff now fetches astronomical prices... Sorry for the pun there...Rp0thejester wrote: 31 May 2023, 17:55 Keep an eye out for Teenage Mutant HERO turtles, not ninja, on your travels to remote places. A good MK1 original Chopper in good condition is very valuable now... Much more than the cost of a new one!
Not that kind of chopper Mickmickthemaverick wrote: 31 May 2023, 17:52I was born with mine!CitroJim wrote: 31 May 2023, 17:50 And now, Raleigh Choppers are backA Chopper cost you £32 originally and now cost £350...

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
TNHero turtles only came out in the UK, so not available in US, American collecters want them, so keep an eye out in those old village shops. As for choppers, I'll leave it to you two who has the better bells and ribbons

Posting my picture of a Hillman Imp on the "The Maker's Name-Close up Original Photos only." thread here

Reminded me of these
One of those old fashioned barely edible sweets originally coming from the Chemist Shop, with claims of some kind of therapeutic benefit.
Victory V's and Cough Sweets and Cough Candy were a bit nicer.
