The coffee shop in Bromley High Street used to ventilate the coffee roaster out through the front of the shop, you could smell it from a long way off. Don't know if it does now or even if its still there.

Full details here!
Take it to The Repair Shop on the BBC. Tell them it was your Great Great Grandfather's and that it'd mean so much to you to be able to watch EastEnders on it. Don't forget to squirt a bit of lemon juice in your eyes before you go and pick it up as that's good for the cameras

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
Today's Heardle track reminded me of the top book which I purchased with my own 3/6 back in 1968. Thought I still had it lying around somewhere
Nice little books. Took a lot of 3/6's for flying lessons though, although I did get airborne under my own steam at the Hole of Horcum in 1982 on a week's hang gliding course.
Joining-in bit...
What are the random books which have somehow survived from childhood, and been kept to this day, whether through good reason or just random chance.
Regards Neil

And one might argue that this is a version of Learning to Fly

I have a fair number of books from my childhood but in order to adhere to the randomness referred to I have picked out these two because they both have their prices on themNewcastleFalcon wrote: ↑28 Mar 2022, 11:34

..and those two books in juxtaposition on the image, whether individually unique or not, have now joined the ranks of www uniqueness as a composite image. like my pair of KTG'smickthemaverick wrote: ↑28 Mar 2022, 11:48I have picked out these two because they both have their prices on themNewcastleFalcon wrote: ↑28 Mar 2022, 11:34

..and another one. From 1928, I didn't actually buy this one. Acquired it from a friend an the '50s or '60s. It literally was a glimpse into the future of television, the TV market didn't start until about 1936. There is an article in there by John Logie Baird on his 'Developments in television'.

Here's another couple of inexplicable survivors. Not mine personally, it would be some years before I took an interest in renovating brickwork or wallpapering and decorating. Not a stack you understand where I retained a couple for nostalgia and the nice colour covers but literally an odd couple of issues lying about which I have today for no particular reason.

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
My first text book, which was published in 1932 and a Christmas present to my father, passed down to me following his days as a wireless engineer in the Royal Signals. He gave me this when I started a Saturday job, aged 11, working in a Radio and TV repair shop. The second picture is just for those who wish to lament the passing of that era!!

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
There is a treasure trove out there, and I would say everyone has a potential contribution to make. I could go on to Tootles the Taxi in two editions...out of the many many ladybird books, why did that one become one of the survivors to this day. Surely everyone has an example or two.

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
I had a book by F J Camm, 50 tested wireless circuits, it was my reference book for years, all valve stuff of course. I lent it to someone when we moved down here and never got it back.

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
A trio this time.
My first 3 cars. Never say never but am I likely to need to consult either the mini drivers handbook explaining the complicated "dashboard" layout of a 1960's Mini, or the Haynes manual for a Triumph GT6 or a Lancia Beta Coupe
Still along with a collection of other's they remain unchucked out after much water has gone under the bridge...

My brother was a linesman in the Royal Signals, before your time though Mick, spent most of his service in Singapore an the Malay jungle putting back up what the locals nicked.
