A rarity, a red telephone box with a telephone still in it

Are you sure it isn't a defibrillator?

Definitely a telephone, although the angle of the photo with the fingerpost in the background doesnt show it too well.

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
Sarcasm Neil, seeing as so many have been used as defib stations recently.

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
Seeing this reminded me of Tree Climbing in my youth.
Always preferred to master the tree climb without the artificial aids of six inch nails hammered into the trunk for assistance. The randomly nailed on bits of wood, and a rope swing from one of the branches was a bit of a memory jog.

Had to look that up Peter, but I see now, didn't know copper nails used as "stump killers" were a thing.

Nails in tree trunks Aagh!
When we were lads one of my mates did that, climbed the tree, one of the nails gave way and he sipped down tearing out his testicles on the nail below, he recovered but from then on was know as 'One ball Baugh',
He did though manage to produce two sons later on.

Glad I put the picture up now Gibbo. Always a pleasure for me when it sparks off some memories in others, even if that story did literally make me go aaargh and wince, but at least it had a positive conclusionGibbo2286 wrote: ↑25 Jan 2022, 10:46 Nails in tree trunks Aagh!

I wonder when was the last time before today you thought about that particular incident and "one ball Baugh"

PS I just read it again and in spite of knowing what was coming, I recoiled and physically winced again Powerful story telling Gibbo in a couple of well described sentences

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
Tell you what I remember as a child , on a Sunday morning the whole street washing there cars then once they had finished the lawn mower would start up, it was like a Sunday morning serenade, on most driveways the hose running and the occasional hover, then the mower would start and only a few where electric the rest push mowers, by lunch time all done and people would venture out in their clean cars...….
Very rare see anyone on our street wash a car now, I think it's me and the chap further down with a Lotus we are the only two houses now, I was actually told by my neighbour you don't need to wash them now its the new paint you know! clearly "new" car paint stops them getting dirty

You must be one of the younger ones Chris, when I was a lad nobody in our street had a car.

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
When I was a kid there were only about 3 cars in our road, there weren't many more when I got my first one in 1956, a 1939 Ford Prefect. It was rare to see a teenager driving a car in the '50's unless they were a TV engineer.

Re: Remember these.? All our yesterdays
Only our next door neighbor, a businessman, had a car on the whole of the area we lived in. A neighbour across the street had a van, from the electrical company he worked for, but not all the time. He usually went to work on his bike but would come home in the van for lunch.
My dad and one of his colleagues would sometimes come home for lunch in their works pickup and me and my mate, son of my dad's colleague, and a couple of other lads would pile in the bed of the pickup for a lift halfway to school.
Practically impossible to park there now, so many cars.

In the 1970's another routine...on a weekday morning...
Bob Ferris and the Elm Lodge Housing Estate synchronised driving to work dance. Vid starts at relevant clip.
