Re: Pickled Egg Quiz
Was the Queens pipe the incinerator C&E used to burn smuggled tobacco? Seem to recall something about that from Dockland visits

Re: Pickled Egg Quiz
Mick on the spreadsheet I downloaded that is Engineers Line Reference CNH3 and the bridge Number is 12.mickthemaverick wrote: ↑15 Jul 2020, 21:08 That would be this one from Network Rails list:
CNH3 181.0231 0.0000 12 SALTNEY Bridge Underline Bridge NO LATERAL POSITION
NO TRACK ID London North Western Central West NO MAJ STRUCT FLG Functionary Network Rail (CE-Struct) NO SECONDARY ELR 0.0000 3978559DBEC245D9E04400306E4AD01A 193989 1 NO PARENT ELEMENT ID NO ROUTE TYPE N NO STRUCT POLICY REF FLG RBE - Brick NO SECONDARY MATERIAL NO STRUCTURAL FORM
The only ones on the list I found with no number ref are FORTH BRIDGE and TAY BRIDGE where those words are the reference.

Re: Pickled Egg Quiz
That might be because I copied line 3968 instead of 3969 This is 3969 which has Null ID in the ref column.
I cannot find either the Tay or Forth bridges named in the spreadsheet, which row numbers are they on your sheet Neil?

Forth Bridge is Spreadsheet line number 8581 on the sheetmickthemaverick wrote: ↑15 Jul 2020, 21:50 That might be because I copied line 3968 instead of 3969 This is 3969 which has Null ID in the ref column.

Tay Bridge is Spreadsheet line number 8582 on the sheet
I down loaded the spreadsheet here https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/ ... twork_rail
didnt sort it at all so the line numbers I quote are the line numbers on an unsorted sheet.
Found the Forth Bridge entry using the "Find and Replace" option on the Edit menu on the spreadsheet. Just put Forth in the find box and clicked down all the occurences of it on the sheet and the bridge turned up on lines 8581 and 8582.
I think the sheet you are using is different to mine in the line numbers.

Re: Pickled Egg Quiz
oooeerrrr!!
I think we have different versions of the sheet.
This is the column headings on my sheet and a shot showing the row numbers you mentioned:
I assumed the 'Railway ID' column to be the bridge number in view of the type of entries.
I have used excel to search the 15000+ rows for both bridges in all columns and found nothing!!
I feel a plot thickening.
I downloaded the sheet from the freedom of information website!!

Petty much the same source there except mine was from a 2018 enquiry and hence probably been up dated since your sheet.:
can you put up a screenshot of the lines so I can try and find them from other info in the entries?

Re: Pickled Egg Quiz
Mick, I have downloaded your FOI spreadsheet and as well as definitely not having the Forth Or Tay Bridge on the list it uses Engineer's Line References which do not include ECN2 or any of the Alpha Numeric References which fill the earlier sheet. The spreadsheet from 2018 has 15782 lines the info from 2013 has 28,452 lines.mickthemaverick wrote: ↑15 Jul 2020, 23:52 can you put up a screenshot of the lines so I can try and find them from other info in the entries?
Save you fruitlessly trying to match the two sheets up.....they contain different selections of information.
I guess it is down to what enquiry they put into their database.
The Engineer's Line References haven't changed as shown in the spreadsheet entitled Scotland Redacted from a 2019 FOI request, where the FORTH BRIDGE appears at line 1306 as the "Railway ID" and the TAY BRIDGE appears at Line 1501. Both have the engineers line reference ECN2.
Reference number: FOI2019/01148

Re: Pickled Egg Quiz
Michael Portillo might be an ex-politician, but I would have expected the producers of Great British Railway Journeys to have done their research properly. If they get things wrong (and are SEEN to get it wrong) people will lose their trust in those producers. I would NOT blame the presenter (whoever they are) for any research mistakes (unless they are the researcher).bobins wrote: ↑16 Jul 2020, 15:36Hell Razor5543 wrote: ↑15 Jul 2020, 20:39 It IS The Forth Bridge, but it is simply known as "The Bridge" (according to Michael Portillo and Great British Railway Journeys). Re: Pickled Egg Quiz
Having been filmed and been present during filming of a few bits for TV programmes, I can assure you that producers only have a passing acquaintance with truth and reality. 'Good' TV and accurate TV aren't the same thing, unfortunately I don't blame for that, BTW. I think most of the public would be too bored by 'accurate' TV.

True, but if something is claimed as a fact (regardless of the program presenting it) I would expect it to be accurate.bobins wrote: ↑16 Jul 2020, 19:53 Having been filmed and been present during filming of a few bits for TV programmes, I can assure you that producers only have a passing acquaintance with truth and reality.
