Re: Pickled Egg Quiz
Quality Mick as ever. Of course some FCF members may have had to look up Eddie Waring. I didnt realise it was Herb but listening now its obvious, and came across it as Ashes to Ashes had an "Its A Knockout" sequence, and throughout Gene Hunt's favourite artist was Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, and it appeared on the track listing for the episode.

Re: Pickled Egg Quiz
I did wonder where you had come across the track title, it really never was that well known. However it does prompt an off the cuff quiz question from me:
Who would you expect to see on the TV if you heard the theme tune "Eye Level" and who would have been playing it?

Re: Pickled Egg Quiz
Spot on Neil, that was far too easy so try this one:
If you were sitting in Sydney in the 60's watching the current affairs programme 'Four Corners' which English football team might you be able to connect it with and how?

Re: Pickled Egg Quiz
Going to have to look that one up Mick. From the Australian Pools.....(do they still exist!) Newcastle probably in NSW did have a team.
Are we talking one of Div 1 to Div 4 teams or perhaps just 1st Division. At the time no doubt the Quakers would be in the football league, So TOH answer Darlington or possibly Middlesborough Dorman Long of Middlesborough are wiki credited with the building of Sydney Harbour and the Tyne Bridge but form part of Cleveland Bridge based in the Darlington"
I am plumping for the bridge to be part of the link with the "Four Corners" chosen for the current affairs programme name may refer to the pillars on which the bridge stands.
So Newcastle, Middlesborough or Darlington.....I have to plump for Newcastle for the bridge link above

The tune has a very familiar sound to it, but there is a connection here, not sure who originated the piece but one with their name stamped on the record was also chairman of

Re: Pickled Egg Quiz
That is a perfectly correct and valid answer which I have to accept. Well done. However it is not even close to the answer I was looking for! I am happy to reveal my answer or would you like to go for double points?
Your reprise came in after I had typed the above but yes the penny has dropped and you have 95% of the answer. Either Everton Or Watford was what I was looking for, but the bit you haven't mentioned is that Lost Patrol by Johnny Keating, as used for Four Corners, was the B side of his recording of the Z Cars theme!

Re: Pickled Egg Quiz
It was a decent challenge Mick. The "Lost Patrol" tune is quite familiar but I cant find credit for it being used as a theme for anything else. Thought it was an old MOTD theme at first.

We all learnt from that challenge!!! Have a listen to this part of P.Tchaikovsky. Italian Capriccio starting at about 7.00 and tell me what you think?

Re: Pickled Egg Quiz
Only 60 odd years after Tchaikovsky pops his clogs he gets ripped off! He probably ripped someone else off though!
Wiki is a strange beast......I see on your record that R Maxwell is credited as the writer. I first thought that the originator was John Barry, then our friend John "Johnny" Keating, but seeing the label the Maxwell bloke seems to get the credit, and then we find its ripped of from Tchaikovsky
