There is one called Palmers in Bridport - no idea what they make though I don't drink beer.

A Quiz from my TOH so no research has been done .....yet!! 5 points a question with a 50 point bonus for a full set of correct answers. :-D

Enjoy a dig:

1. Three white ships with yellow funnels plied their tourism trade in the Thames Estuary and across to France in the 1950s and 60s.

a) Name the ships
b) How many funnels did they have between them?
c) What was the name of the Shipping Line that operated them?


2. In the same period there were two famous amusement parks either side of the estuary.

a) Name the parks
b) Where were they situated?
c) What else did their host towns have in common?


3. Just outside the estuary a new ferry service was launched.

a) What was different about the service?
b) Which two companies became involved?
c) Which two ports were used?


4. On land another cross channel ferry service was available from the area.

a) What vehicles were used for that service?
b) Which company operated them?
c) Where would you go to use that service?


5. A former Prime Minister used to holiday in the Kent area in that period.

a) Which town did he base himself in?
b) What was the name of the vehicle he spent most of his time in?
c) Who bumped into him in the high street and almost knocked him under a bus?

Will do Mick, none spring out from my TOH :-D . Is the Geographic spread of the answers "The Thames Estuary" :?: Maybe a box drawn round a Map showing how far down Kent or up Essex it covers, if it does not give too much away, could be helpful.

a) What vehicles were used for that service? Bristol Freighter and Aviation Traders Carvair
b) Which company operated them? Silver City Airways
c) Where would you go to use that service? Lympne Airport or later Lydd

Churchill used to holiday in Kent, Heath probably did too....he was born in Kent

I only remember Silver City Airways, used to go down and watch them.

Churchill lived in Kent at Westerham, not all that far from where we lived. Sorry missed that, don't know anything about a bus though - it wasn't me.
