Well Anders was correct (as usual, the guy is a genius!!) it was the bearings in the alt & it is getting swapped over by my nice friendly mechanic.. yes i know i should do it myself but its cold, im lazy and im having losts of other things done at the same time.. tappets reset n that,, sounds like a Talbot Subeam at the moment!![V]

OK, it turns out that it wasnt the alternator bearings... it was the cambelt tensioner...good job i checked then!!!!!!!!! could have been a snap twang ding moment!!!! bye bye valves!
