Then you would connect the blue wire to the power common, the red wire to the ignition switch, the white wire to the starter button and the yellow and brown wires to the second toggle switch!

It would work, eliminate the key entirely and look a bit cool!!

Can I conclude that the Falcon design, at it's simplest would function.

The Cigar Lighter will have a live and a ground wire, and the white wire formerly from ignition switch, will go from the Engine Start Button to the IPDM box and onwards to the Solenoid. The push button will transfer the live wire connection to the white wire.

No your diagram does not put the actual button contact into circuit. It would need to be like this:

That would work if, as Jim said, you make sure the fan and rear window heater and anything else powered by the brown or yellow wires are switched off at source before pressing the starter button.

However personally I would prefer a method which isolates those two circuits as above.

With the aircraft style panel above bear in mind that you could mount the starting panel inside a locked glovebox and the key is still needed to get in the door so you have some protection.!!

There are three terminals on the switch. This could be the most ignorant question I've asked so far but does the switch push "on" not link all three contacts, and does the switch need the black ground wire from the cigar lighter.

I can see the little panel could well be the better solution and at £20 easily worth it, but just trying to keep it as simple as possible and minimum harness breaking into and cutting.

No the button being pressed connects terminals 1 and 2 only.
Yes the black wire on the switch goes to the black earth on the lighter, the red wire on the switch to the lighter +ve power lead and the white ignition wire onto the spare terminal number 1. The earth connection is used to provide the illumination of the button when you turn on the ignition and power up the cigar lighter, it is not strictly necessary but at least it confirms you have power at the starter button..

Just drill a 19mm hole through the floor above the Catalytic Converter and you can light them on it!!

Sorry Farnells of Leeds your catalogues were too faffy to work out what would be the most appropriate of your offerings for the job and pass my apologies on to Schneider Electrics and their factories in Bohemia. As for the UK push button starter industry you need to get your act together you are invisible to buyers.

I am too much of a "fair weather" car tinkerer, to take it any further before a decent bit of warmer weather arrives. Bit of a thaw today but I need well over 10°C and a dry day to even think about it

I may well record 0 miles in the month on the Micra for December 2022 as it sits with the battery disconnected and removed and now residing in the footwell, and the old starter motor removed with no replacement bought as yet. I never replaced the plastic cowling around the ignition barrel when I replaced the starter switch more than a year ago, so the wiring gubbins I need access to is already reasonably well exposed.

Very wise!! Clearing the snow off the Subaru was enough for me yesterday but I needed to take SWMBO out as she was nervous of driving! I was pleased that it started first time having stood for 11 days and endured the weather's attack but I decided to let the MX3 thaw naturally as the battery is old and I suspect a jump start will be called for and it's too cold to muck about with that when there is no actual need!!

I'm with you Neil. Hence all this activity on the Forum in the run up to Christmas. However, the New Year will see our programme of improvements upstairs start up again. Something for idle hands to turn to.
