That is lovely, I bet you could sell that plate to a certain type of lady without too much bother as well! :rofl2:

The binnacle trim is an utter pain, I changed a couple of bulbs on my old 1.8D Junior and remember the struggle well even though it was probably 15 years ago!

Interestingly, the BF prefix was originally allocated to Devon in the early part of last century...

The first plate issued was BF1 on an Ormonde motorcycle...

For some reason that I've never established and is now lost in time, BF was considered utterly outrageous and Devon County Council - who handled vehicle registrations in those days - had to withdraw all plates containing BF and re-issue new ones...

The original BF1 was re-registered as Y5 which, in fact, was a Somerset registration...

Any ideas what BF stood for to make it so obscene? The best thought so far is 'Bloody Fool' which in 1904 was quite possibly very near the knuckle...

BF would later return as an area suffix for Staffordshire, as borne by our Escort H881LBF registered & sold by Chatfield Ford Stoke... I don't think the gearbox would last too long with a torque output of 881Lb/f, that's about the most exciting thing I've been able to derive from that particular plate (although SWMBO did come up with a rather flattering one for the LBF bit

And presumably the good people of Staffordshire found nothing in the least outrageous about it...

An Escort with 881 lb. ft. of torque with be outrageous though ;)

But likely huge fun

BF did indeed mean bloody fool & was vulgar & not used in "polite society" probably well into the '60's.

On the other hand Edwardians were remarkably niaive (to us) & had no qualms about issuing the FU series. FU 2 was on an E-type frequently seen around Knightsbridge in the '70's & now too valuable for the DVLA to withdraw (as I'm sure their department dedicated to protecting public morals would love to). A contemporary was an S1 Bentley PEN 15 - with a "5" that had clearly been warmed & deformed (no perspex plates back then!).

Oh, & that latest 205 van is a new one on me too, so that's 4 types! I noticed it appears to have been Dutch originally, so it might have been a Dutch conversion, to be local tax concession compliant, which the factory jobbie with the vertical tailgate/back door would not have been because the (standard car hight) roof would/ve been too low.

Never knew that about FU2 Van...

But then, in those days it did not mean anything like it does today...
