Good evening from a wet and windy Mullion Cove Cornwall.

I have just found out the correct length of the dipstick for my C5 2ltr petrol 2003 by chance.

I had contacted a breaker for a price on a dipstick by sending a picture of my engine and the length of the temporary one the vehicle has.

The temporary one that came with the car was 52cm, the breaker came back with the correct length of one they have as 54cm.

This is measuring from the bottom of the handle to the tip of the dipstick at the bottom.

At £17.50 I shall give it a miss : )

Could you make out from the photo where the max and min marks were?

Give A1 Car Spares (Wokingham) a call. They had (on Tuesday, at least) a petrol C5 Mk1 VTR on the racking. They might be able to give a better price (I have found them to be fair in the past).

It’s funny that the breaker price is more than the genuine part.

I remember buying a new one when I had my XM at about £12 and was surprised at the time that they were still on the shelf as the XM had been out of production some years.

I think £15 is okay for the real thing and there is no chance of the blade dropping down the tube (well for a few years anyway).

Yes, you have to watch them - it's the same for some of the accessories - I'm on the lookout for another seat headrest coat hanger for the passenger side - first one cost me £35 from Citroen a few years ago and now they are £15 inc. Less than half the price from some other outlets selling genuine parts - prices can change daily and even on the more traditional items like DMFs and Clutch kits - Citroen can be cheaper for original parts than the after-market offerings- frequently.
