The Anglia is a long way from home for those days, Kent registered - my home county.

(been trying to post these for a while, dutifully reduced the size but kept getting error, now realized I had made them too small. not too big, the error message for a too small file is a bit confusing because it tells you its the right size ... any admins reading.. Got it now so may find others in the collection)

Alcohol themed:

The first, outside a bar in Toronto, not sure if it made me smile or weep.

The second, any WH Smith on a motorway service area displays these if they sell wine or beer. Read it carefully, and ask yourself what's the point of buying it then being as how you are not allowed to drink it anywhere ever.

I love those two signs Richard but I'm jolly puzzled by the WH Smiths one

Keep them coming Richard, I like the WH Smith one in particular. Nice unintended absurdity there!

We had a minefield around our camp in Egypt, it didn't stop the Egyptian boys walking through it in the night and stealing kit from under the squaddies beds while they slept.

Still think the best one I've seen in years is stuck on the (ancient and slightly terrifying) bandsaw in a mate's workshop.

"This machine has no brain. Use your own instead."

Likewise the laser cutter has one which states "Big, scary laser. Do not look into beam with remaining eye."

Neither original, but I liked them being sensibly placed.

I can't for the life of me remember what the one on the lathe says. Rarely used that though, the way the lights throughout the farm dimmed when you started the motor set the general tone for it really.

Not as much fun as starting the blower motor for the grain drier though. Quite fun standing next to a 30hp motor driving a very heavy centrifugal blower as it starts - even if it does make the concrete slab the whole barn sits on move when the star/delta contactor switches over as it gets up to speed.

Lots of stuff there that's great fun to play with - but while using a large amount of commonsense and a healthy dose of respect for how many new and exciting ways in which they can kill you.

That's even before I stumbled across the room with the Marx generator in.

Don't know why, but brings to mind 2 things:-

my mother's childhood recollections of playing on the bench in the local sawmill

a conversation with my son when we were in VietNam: He - that lad on the pavement welding stainless is wearing mask
Me - he must've been on the H&S course
He - must've left early, he's bare footed! - well it made I larff.

It's the new mayor of London's sign for the congestion zone.
