I didnt realise that was possible.
If its private why do they have to keep such stock? Surely it would be up to them how to stock their store room.

I think PSA were trying to get their franchises to hold stock regionally i.e. one main dealer would hold one hell of a lot of stock and then supply it out to other dealers in the area. This was so PSA didn't have to do the multi-drop deliveries to all their dealers. I think a lot of dealers politely told them to 'go forth and multiply' as it'd tie up a lot of money both in stock and extra delivery vehicles........ but it's slowly being rolled out. A mate of mine works in one of their parts counters - he reckons the parts ordering and booking in processes are absolutely archaic.
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

The work of PSA accountants. Tweak 'distributing dealers' terms a little, and central stores can get a tad smaller, the volume of your just-in-time movements drops, and a chunk of your stockholding and capital tie-up is shunted on to someone else's shelves, and books. Good, innit? #-o

It's a condition of holding the dealership, motor dealers are not franchisees in the way that McDonalds and the like are they're all privately owned companies and provided they can put up the premises and the funds they can hold as many different dealerships as they like.
Out local Nissan dealer also holds the Dacia dealership and was for a long time a BL dealer until its demise, he also has Mercedes, Audi and Volvo dealerships on other sites 20 or so miles away.
Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

That's right! My local Wilson-Citroen dealership is next door to the Wilson-Peugeot dealership. Down the road they have W-Renault, W-Nissan, W-Fiat, W-Dacia, W-Abarth and W-Vauxhall. Then in another part of town they have W-Vans.

They carry what their central stocktaking computer tells them to, i.e. nothing that hasn't sold in the last 12 months. Amazed Citroen dealers are only now getting shot of BX & Xantia stuff, Jaguar dealers get a computer generated direction a couple of times a year to order a skip (surprised it's not done automatically) & dispose of everything, listed, that's not sold in the previous 12 months. We've come a long way from Ford still boasting in the '50's they still carried model T parts!
