Technically, perhaps, but they could always claim the price was a mistake and pull the listing. They've had more than enough time to do that though, and they haven't - I'm assuming no one's heard a peep from them? eMail is mechwdlibk@yahoo.com if anyone else wants to drop them a line.

Its more than likely a scam whereby they will close the bank account before PayPal process the refunds.
Thankfully we who paid by paypal are all protected and will get our money back.
We'll see but my expectations are less neutral and nore negative now.

It seems very poor rate of return for the effort involved in setting the listing up.

£141 so far for uploading a picture and copy / pasting an item description that mostly came up as nonsense.
For someone on benefits thats 2 weeks money for 10 mins work.
For a normal person it's not so attractive.
Plus they probably haven't realised anyone opening a dispute can access their address.
Theres always the possibility an upset person from Hull goes to get their sockets.
I'm assuming the worst though, they could just be busy and posting them tomorrow.

Watch for the first negative feedback, it'll start a chain reaction and the account will disappear.
Oops, still assuming the worst.

Wow, they've sold 499 now which is over £2k.
First -ve feedback has been left.
I've just tried to cancel mine but couldn't.
Contacted ebay and apparently the payment is held because the seller has used an invalid email address.
Just about to process a refund through paypal and leave honest feedback.

That's my -ve feedback on there. I sent the seller a nice message via eBay, then a nice eMail to the address supplied by Paypal, which must have been valid as it didn't come winging back. No reply to either. I was able to click a 'cancel purchase' button showing on the Paypal transaction - the funds came back the next day, easy peasy.

Serves the seller right. If he's a scammer, he's a pretty poor one, not claiming the funds. If he just didn't know what he was doing, help is easy enough to find.

Agreed, a quick message would go a long way if there were a genuine issue.
I think we were all skeptical that it was genuine at that price anyway.
Within a week they will probably have -499 feedback, that must be a record.

I've made a couple of similar 'purchases' recently - a different socket set and an air jack, each at a stupidly low price, and neither of which materialised. Easily claimed refunds on both. More of the jacks were offered by 'other' sellers using identical listings - each received negative feedback in due course. I recon it's quite possibly the same scammer, but I agree that it's a lot of work for the odd payment which isn't reclaimed.

I suspect it's more than the odd payment; I've only had one purchase go wrong but by the time I discovered, by chance, what I could do (a) it was too late & (b) I had no remedy because there are so many exceptions to/exclusions from the much vaunted money-back guarantee.

However, if dealing with ebay was difficult & frustrating, paypal I found to be impossible, in fact, immediately before logging on tonight, I'd taken certain savage delight in telling them what they could do with their a/c, simply because they'd made changing my e-mail address so difficult as to be more trouble than it was worth - but then I'd never understood its purpose - or found a use for it.

Others on the forum seem well versed in the pitfalls, how to avoid them &, failing that, what to do when things go wrong BUT there must be others like me, who have no idea &/or have a very low tollerance to hassle.

I have just received an email from e-bay telling me the set is no longer available as e-bay have removed it;

"We're writing to let you know that we've removed an item you recently won:
162575807471 - Draper Expert 10 Piece 1/2" Sq Dr Hi-Torq Metric Deep Impact Socket Set 38369"

Looks like somebody is going to get terrible ratings.
