Re: Favourite colours for cars
You know you are right Chris, so what's the best/most interesting colour for an XM?
I dug that particular picture out from https://driventowrite.com/2016/07/19/th ... e-colours/ which is a decent "coffee table browse"
Elsewhere in the intriguingly titled "Archie Vicar's Archive" section I came across this little FIAT that looks very smart in my opinion in its bright yellow paint!

Re: Favourite colours for cars
Favourite one for me, probably BMC's Snapdragon Yellow. Modelled here by my much missed Mini Metro HLE, NSA640W.
Close second I think is the really deep coppery gold that used to be a favourite for the quicker versions of the 306. Have to admit that I keep getting tempted by the idea of a late model 306 DTurbo...sadly it just wouldn't fit anywhere sensibly in the fleet really.

Re: Favourite colours for cars
Snapdragon Yellow looks good across others in the BL stable too
Even the ITAL!

and from "Worldwidewedges" perhaps its ultimate incarnation

Re: Favourite colours for cars
While I know I'm not exactly renowned for my taste in cars...I have to admit to rather liking the Ital...and the Ambassador. If they weren't so rare nowadays I reckon I'd probably have had one by now...bit like "growing up" from the Metro.
Which for all the reputation for horrendous build quality, save for a dodgy fuel gauge that only worked when it rained, I never had a bit of trouble with. Only work I had to do were just down to 25+ year old rubber components perishing really. Though the discovery it had metric brakes on the left and imperial on the right did rather make me scratch my head. Suffice to say I didn't ever dare disturb the union's where the two met!

Re: Favourite colours for cars
Neil asked...
There were a few to choose from as time went on:
With acknowledgements to russ92xmsed on Club-xm.co.uk for the colour chart
One of my unlikely favourites is Silver Moss (Gris Gabion)
However, for the full "floating roof" effect, white does something rather special:
Oddly, UK Sales found that white (there were two - Alpine and Polar) was not a popular colour. It was the sole non-metallic/non-pearlescent colour, apart from Admiral Blue on the lower-spec VSX. Our own Polar White 2.5 Exclusive was one of thirty brought into the UK for 1996, with many of them sitting in the warehouse for two-and-a-half years before being offloaded to dealers.
Best colour? Whatever floats your roof!
Now that's a difficult one.NewcastleFalcon wrote:. . . so what's the best/most interesting colour for an XM?

Re: Favourite colours for cars
Excellent stuff Chris...and a proper nuancier! colour chart
I do like the ones where you can click on a colour and see an example of the car.
The Marina/Ital has one, and useful for anyone who had forgotton what "black tulip" looks like!

Contenders for my least favourite ones from the e-type list would be Sable and Willow Green. Thats not to say they wouldn't create a stir of interest if they appeared in Morrison's car park.

Well guess what. I think I made a bit of a rash statement about willow green, saw one in the flesh at Thirlstane and it has a red rosette on it...might even have been best in show!

Re: Favourite colours for cars
No, they're not the loveliest of colours (although as oh, so '70's browns go, sable's better than most) BUT a fawn E-type! How could the colour & the car appeal to the same person?

Re: Favourite colours for cars
The Corsair there takes my prize for maybe the worst handling car I've ever driven. Not a car to be asked to corner at speed, believe me.
PS
It was Almond, btw.

Re: Favourite colours for cars
Shame, always liked them - if ever a car was meant to be a convertible - & quite fancied a "3000E" (of course, one might hope that part of THAT conversion might have been some suspension tweeks).

Re: Favourite colours for cars
Some detail here about the Corsair from the Crayford Convertible Car Club
http://www.crayfordconvertibleclub.com/ ... rsair.html
and a picture is obviously required, but never seen one in the flesh to get the instamatic out so we will just have to put up with a link
But what colour to choose, after all this being "favourite colours for cars". Well in the club's gallery there's white, black and red.
Well here's my decision in black and white
