Hi all! Glad to have found this thread, as I’m having real problems getting Lexia to open. My Toshiba laptop is Windows 7 64 bit. I read the messages here but may I ask how you go from 64 to 32? I’m not entirely computer savvy, so I’m sorry if this is a daft question! 🙂

You can't without uninstalling the 64 bit version of Windows 7 and then reinstalling a 32 bit version of Windows.

Although the licences are interchangeable (i.e. you can use the same licence key for either a 32 or 64 bit installation), you should also deactivate the licence first to reduce the issues of problems when re-using it on the new installation.

You will also need to reinstall all your programmes again of course, although if this is a diagnostics laptop I guess you won't have too many of those. Also, make sure you have all your device drivers ready. You'll also need your Windows 7 32 bit installation media.

Hi Marc,

Thanks for this. Great to have some clarity on things. One imagines the disc will give me the option when I reinstall. Never done that with a computer before so first time for everything, eh! I’ll give it a go tomorrow. Thanks again!

Not necessarily James. The optical media (installation DVD) will state the Operating System Version. This will depend on what the system was shipped with when new and is usually either 32 or 64 bit - not both - see where I have arrowed in red on typical installation media.

If you don't have a 32 bit media disc, you can download it free from Microsoft, but of course will still need a licence key to do this from the Microsoft site:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/softwar ... d/windows7

So if you have your licence, usually installed on a sticker on the laptop and will look like this - it is the 'Product Key you need'

One other thing to watch out for is that some product keys are only for manufacturers as part of volume licencing so the product key may not allow you to download it.
