What have I spotted?... a big con as I always suspected.

Had a watch of this video from Barrie Crampton last night, and a very interesting watch with his comments regarding all the false EV sales figures being shoved out with dealers paid to register them in December 2022 as new car sales, left on forecourts and then ending up on Autotrader with delivery mileage being sold as used. Never sold in the first place!

Some other really good info about the depreciation of these things in a year with massive losses, plus a lot of anecdotes about his years in the business.

Pre registered cars have always been part of the car sales industry. I recall back in the 1950s having the dealer's quota met by registering Morris 1000 Austin A35 Hillman Minx etc. then sold as 'demonstrators' with little more than delivery mileage.
Another scheme was the 'Channel Islands' registered cars which kept Ford's sales figures up, they handed car hire companies on the islands two fleets a year then took them back and sold them on the mainland, 'low mileage' because on the Islands there was hardly anywhere to go, but it kept the Fiesta on the best seller list.

I just thought it was quite topical and that they are massaging the figures to make people thing EVs are really taking off when they are bottle necking because people 'in the real world' are not buying them. Moistly company cars or self employed - but joe public are buying second hand as prices continue to drop. ICE vehicles are in great demand and holding value unsurprisingly, with many getting more than what they paid for their second hand cars a few years ago when trading in!

£12k some bloke has paid to have a home charger. Dug up his new drive, lay cables, upgrade electrics, surveys and the like just to get a 7KW charger on his house wall.

My concerns have always been the values of second hand electric cars that are going to plummet as their value becomes less and less as the battery ages. Unless you pay for renting the battery (more monthly costs), then factor that into the cost of ownership - it's not viable in may cases.

I note the EV rental startup he shows with a major investor pulling out already as the rental costs for some EVs starting £1500 up a month! No surprise there.

:rofl2: I know what you mean - but I think he's been getting some flack from the 'EV angelists' as he calls them, so just trying to respond with facts and figures.

I can't remember if he mnetioned the Zoe or was it the Leaf in there, but I felt it was quite informing.

In a busy little place in the summertime often difficult to find an on-street free parking place.

Our Polestar here did, but at the same time was a little naughty. Didn't even plug in but wandered off to the beach/pub/golf club taking up a charging space without charging up, it's just not cricket. :-D
