To diagnose this further, you probably need to start isolating the hydraulic return pipes and monitoring the flow back to the reservoir from each component.

Success! Found this on the above XM club site. Put it in low position and undid the pressure release screw and left to vent for 5 mins. Closed screw and returned to normal position, went for a ride and bingo; back to normal. Thanks everyone for replies.
